So TJ, did you think Rhett had a good 2005 finals campaign then?

IMO, is a handy player, but way off being a great player.

Bigland is a much maligned player on BigFooty. His finals campaign suffered because of the loss of Huddo. Early he was good, but against WCE he had an ordinary one - but he wasn't an orphan there.

The rotations between the Huddo and Biglands help both go hard while they are on. Once Huddo was lost it was always going to be difficult for Rhett. Clarke did some useful things when he came back in, but every time he was on his opponent killed us......

Every opposition coach knows that when Clarke is on, that if their ruckman runs to create an option, Clarke won't get to the contest. At least Rhett can:

make a contest;
chase an opponent; and
lay an occasional tackle

I hope that Meesen and Maric can come in this year to support Biglands until Huddo comes back, whenever that is. It would have been a tough call to blood one of the young guys during the finals, but I think that now we are far better off looking to bring the younger guys in rather than Clarke.

You also have to give Cox credit where it is due. He is a class above Biglands and way above Clarke in terms of his field play.

If we had the rotation going that I mentioned in my earlier post with Huddo and Rhett I'm sure that Cox wouldn't have had the same influence on the game. We'll never know for sure, but that's my honest opinion.

i rate Huddo well above Biglands, and even if Meeson and/or Maric step up and have a crack at playing regular AFL footy next season, i would still put Hudson above the lot of them.
You cant honestly say two new kids will become better than Hudson in one year of top level footy, i doubt they will play many games (if any) next year if Clarke and Biglands stay fit.

Qualified Physiotherapist's should be able to tell him when he is right to go.
Hang on?

Hell be back the minute he says he is good to go. I'm tipping round 9 SANFL.
with no reoccurring injury.

I don't think anyone is really saying that Meesen or Maric will take Huddo's spot. What I am debating with Capitalist and a couple of others is that natural evolution will see either Maric or Meesen replace Biglands in the side.

where would BF be without unfair slagging off of a player or two?

oh, and invented reasons why.

Crow-mo, it's just not standard practice - I was under the impression that it was compulsory, hence my elevation of Smith to the role of anti-Christ!! :p

I'm floundering like a fish out of water now that no good, no talent imitation of Ginger Meggs has gone!! ;)

Back on topic. No way should Huddo be allowed to play next year at AFL level. Perhaps a couple of gaames at the end of the year at SANFL level to get a bit of confidence back, so he will be ready to fire in 2007.

He's too good to risk, as his absence at the end of the year clearly showed.

but if biglands is playing with Meeson/Maric, (assuming that Clarke is not going to play every game) he has got more of a chance of securing his position than a guy sitting on the sidelines with a knee problem

ok just imagine that Biglands plays all 22 games in 06 (plus 3 :D ), Huddo plays none of this games, and one of Maric and Meeson play 6 games with Biglands as Clarke will be used sparingly you would think.

Therefore Biglands is the No.1 Ruckman based on the fact that he is the most senior ruckman (experience not age I suppose) because Clarke will retire end 06.

So fast forward to '07 Rd 1, your NC you've got Rhett Biglands who has played the whole of '06 as the No.1, you have Huddo who is coming back from a Knee with no AFL for over 18 months, you have one of Maric/Meeson who has played 6 games and is the way of the future. so

who are you going to pick ? who are you not going to drop after 1 bad game ?

and I realise you will just say Huddo - but what are the realistic chances of Huddo walking into the team Rd 1 '07 if he doesn't play a single game in '06 ?
