Just thought I would get this thread started to generate some interest in the Hume FL (after a people on the O & M thread showing minimal interest). Will also help to keep up to date given I am no longer in the area.

Anyway who is the tip for the flag this year?
Who will take the league Medal?
Who were the sides that improved this year?
Is there any big news for next year?

1. Dunno, I hope Osborne, I just like the colours.
2. Seniors - Howlong player (Hansen?), Reserves - Howlong Coach (can't remember his name) Thirds - Osborne kid. Check the BM web site on Monday to see how close I get. I was told these, but the names elude me for the moment.
3 Pigers, Henty Jindera
4 Holbrook will be much improved as half of Albury F.C heads their way.

OK, my mail was good - Hansen, Devaney (Reserves coach) and the kid from Osborne were the winners.

Must have made for a very exciting count - NOT.

good work Deposit.

should be a good grand final, although I can't believe Myles is allowed to play after being found guilty last week.

My mail is Marc Almond is being pursued to coach Jindera.

Al Abele over the line at Culcairn.

You are right about Almond Arceri - he is amongst a cast of tens though.

Somewhere in between the VCFL and the new south tribunal system lies the ideal AFAIAC.

Good luck to G. Hart against his old team mates.

who else is on Jindera's list?

I have heard Ian Romeril will be coaching Beechworth next season.

correct he will coach beechworth next year an he is chasing yarra ruckman josh frawley as assistant!

what is the connection between the 2?

no offence to Ian, but he's probably not the biggest profile bloke getting around.

any other coaching appointments

Not 100% sure on the connection but I do know he was trying to intice frawley to brock/burrum early this year without any luck so there is some relationship there somewhere.

Dederang is still without a coach but are interviewing Mark Dicketts this week.

Doggie came back for the last few games after missig most of the year with a stuffed back.

Not sure if he'll retire. Apparently Jindera are losing a few oler blokes.

Dicketts would be good I reckon

arceri, is it right a few hume league clubs have been chasing sammy sleigh??

very promising young bloke from over berrigan way i hear??

Arceri,
you seem to know plenty about the Hume League, can you do a quick season review? Who were the disappointments, the surprise packets, the gun players to look for next year?

As an ex-Culcairn resident, without a doubt the biggest disappointment were Culcairn.
A severe lack of application on the training track all year, from so-called gun recruits destroyed morale.
A reasonable squad at full strength but poor attitude, this would explain as many 100 point wins as 100 point losses.

They need an experienced strong coach for next year or they will be in big trouble.

KokodaMidget, that's a bit above me.

I agree that Culcairn were the biggest disappointment though.

my tip: back Osborne at every opportunity and you'll come out in front.

I would love to get a wrap up of the year as well, if anybody can help out...
It still stuns me that Osborne has been such a successful club given their location.
How was the feeling with Brock/Burrum Merger, did it go well? Did they have any wins or did they continue along down the bottom

Although I'm from down the river a little, I have a mate tied up with Osborne. I spoke to him last night and some of his thoughts were:

Osborne: came good at right time of the year and blessed with huge local talent base (he might be biased).

Howlong: recruited some big names on big dollars and were a long way ahead of the pack in the home and away. Rijnbeek's knee has put them on a level footing with osborne.

Henty: Huge turnaround from last year's shocking result. Sanson had a great year up forward.

Jindera: Bad run with injuries.

Rand-Walbundrie: Up and down, but embarrassed in losing the elimination by 100 points. Looking for a new coach with Smith standing down after 4 years. Merger went pretty well I heard.

Walla: Missed out on percentage. Up and down. Pack of short people.

Culcairn: Tipped as a top 3, but failed to deliver. Apparently had 5 at training on some Tuesday nights.

Lockhart: Like Walla, too short.

BB Saints: Competitive early, but fell away badly. In the market for a big-name O and M player as coach.

Holbrook: Never recovered after its mass exodus. For such a big club, would be embarrassed to collect the wooden spoon.

Hope this sheds some light on 2006.

Any truth that Jindera is still talking to Jeremy Masterson despite the apparent package deal with Edmunds out at Holbrook?

What club are you tied up wtih Arceri? your a picola league man aren't you?

Manny won't be at Holbrook next year. Kane Arendarcikas (Corryong coach) has alreeady pounced. Isaac will also being joining the mountain men along with ex Lavington player Mick Carroll.

There is a link there between all of them......

Yeah, they are all Catholics.....

On that logic, look for Cardinal Ratzinger (the Pope) to come in as a half forward flanker :)

Manny Edmunds has signed as coach of Holbrook and Isaac hasn't made up his mind yet. So get off the hooch.

There is no chance Isaac will play at Corryong next season.

Mick Carroll played at Walla this season.

Spot on Manny will coach Holbrook. I'm a bit behind now that i'm in Melb. The Corryong rumours were a few months ago, soi cut me some slack!

Good to see the brookers finally get there man after chasing him for the last 5 years.....
