Has that secured him for the rest of the series?

People will be looking more closely at North now

The way he batted yesterday was reminiscent of the Hussey of four years ago. If he continues to bat like that, he'll be a huge asset for the series.

concur

if we get the old Mr Cricket back it would worthwhile.

I'd hope not.

At the end of the day, our reluctance to make people have consistent performers rather than giving them a lot of credit because they'll score a hundred every now and again is what has hurt us a lot over the last few years.

Hussey looked fantastic and if he bats like that throughout the series it'll take us a long way towards winning. But if he fails in the second innings, and fails in the next Test, we still should be looking for a replacement. Something tells me he's got his confidence back and that won't be an issue, though.

This.
North can produce a 100 in the 2nd innings but he'll never have my trust until he produces in every match.

Well im not convinced Mr Cricket is back, but if he is back, then I'd welcome him back.

Needs to play with confidence again and not just saving his wicket. The Hussey that burst onto the international scene played the cover drive without fear and did it beautifully time and time again. Once he gets his aggression back he'll be a beauty.

Showed it in parts yesterday. Today he seems to be trying to save his wicket again and thats when he starts getting himself into trouble.

Aye, when clarke and punter were out cheaply, was fearing a significantly shortfall on first innings score as Huss, haddin, north, and MJ haven't been spanking it recently when it mattered.

Now a 100 plus lead is doable, maybe more, with the brits batting on a deteriorating pitch.

Name a cricketer who produced the good in every match.

Think you might be asking a bit much.

Concur, but I suppose he means more consistently than North has done in FC and test cricket to date.

It seems to be an unusual selection as North has had an average FC career with bat and ball and was selected to the test side off a solid season ahead of more accomplished players, scored a century in a dead rubber when the heat was off, and generally been ordinary to date when it mattered.

All I'm asking for is North gone really.
And yes as dan warna states, he needs to produce a lot more consistently. He is more hit and miss than Afridi and that is saying something.

He's disappointed those here who were itching for him to fail, that's for sure.
I don't think anyone's itching for him to fail. He seems like a genuine, nice, hardworking guy. Along with Hilfenhaus and Katich, he's one of the only guys in the team I actually like.

I want him to succeed - I just don't want him to retain his place to the detriment of the team if he's going to continue to perform how he has the last couple of years. If he continues to play like this I want him in the team.

And when I say 'play like this' I don't mean he always score centuries and anchor the innings. I just mean play with confidence, deliberation, control. If he continues to play like this for the next couple of Tests I don't mind if he fails more than he succeeds - his mentality will be back and the runs will come.

North is a different story. He just really seems like a wasted spot in the batting order.

Hussey should be safe now for the rest of the series. He would have to score a pair in the next couple of tests to be any chance of being dropped now.

North I reckon will probably get one more test to save himself if Ausralia wins this test. If they lose he could be in trouble as the selectors will want a scapegoat.

Hussey spanking it now, he slowed down in the 80s and picking it up again.

test double isn't out of the question...

It was the way he played more than the numbers that impressed.

Four years ago hussey was the engine that was driving the team, every innings seemed aggressive and intelligent.

Lately even when he has eked out a score it's been a painful process which has placed a lot of pressure on his batting partners to get on with things.

Wheres all those gun armchair selectors that bagged the crap out of Hussey and/or Siddle. Not that they own up, but thanks you wouldve cost us the Ashes! Feel free to give up your armchair jobs, creditability zero :p

Err hussey averaged about 30 for 3 years, if you didn't at any stage question his spot i have to ask why even post on an opinion forum.

Might as well just play it safe say everybody in the team is a gun and that way you never give an opinion so you can never make a mistake.
