I am not sure if it is my nature that allows me to think year in year out we are dead set flag chance prior to a season kickoff.
But every year I find myself in a delusional state of high expectations for the mighty Pies.
When Buckley was announced as coach ( even the shit way it happened ) I was hyped, I jumped on the bandwagon, I believe he is an awesome footballer both on and off the field and knows what he is doing and will take us far. Is this just the hype talking? or does he need another year to get the team right?
The reality is, so far it has not happened.
The list has been talked up on this forum and other sites, in the media and around friends. the hype suggests we have an awesome list of young superstars, massive depth and can only go up from 2014-2015. The reality suggests other teams have far better unknown/new/young players than we do. Certainly Sydney do.
The hype of an awesome preseason and great NAB cup campaign suggested we were shooting for the stars. I even bought an AFL live pass (monthly thank god).
The reality is both Geelong and the Bulldogs steamrolled us and then happy with their progression and planning for the upcoming season put the queue in the rack and let us play our game with not a lot of resistance. This increased my belief in the hype.
Does Collingwood being Collingwood increase the hype? or do all teams supporters feel this way at the start of the season? surely not.
We ended last year abysmally, and have started this year in the same vein, reality is breaking down the hype.
But as a black and white blooded supporter, I still believe we can beat Richmond next week, the hype is still alive.
The reality is we have a massive uphill battle to get a decent fit team on the field next week, one that is both physically able but also mentally right and capable.
Go Pies and may the Hype win through.
