Here's one a mate of mine asked me. I immediately said "not a chance," but then, thinking about it, it is definitely an interesting one.

Say if we had the chance to get Natanui (?) in the draft - be it pick 1, 2 or whatever. Would we consider trading that pick to Freo if they offered us Warnock and Rhys Palmer? (As it's a hypothetical, don't just go down the path of saying "we'll probably get Warnock in the pre-season draft anyway." Let's assume we won't.)

Before you shout me down and say no way, like I did to my mate, think about it.

We get a promising monster ruckman who has already spent a few years in the system and probably the best young midfielder from last year's draft, and not just that, a hard running, pacy midfielder to go with our great inside mids.

I would still lean towards NO, because of Natanui's undoubted football and marketing potential, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

As a general consensus you don't trade #1 picks. Put it this way, if Chris Judd wasn't worth a #1 pick then I don't think Palmer and Warnock would be. It is a very enticing combination and you'd consider it but all in all, I don't think I'd trade #1 pick and that's not taking into account which young player is available in the draft

i think you would have rocks in your head if you think freo would give up palmer and warnock for pick 1. Palmer is worth a top 5 pick by himself, let alone throwing in a promising ruckman. Palmer went at pick 7 and is one of the most promising players in the comp. There is no way in the world freo would consider this. Melbourne would jump at it though

Warnock is shit, i wouldn't even take him "for free" in the PSD.

don't you love it how some people take the term 'hypothetical' to mean 'something that will likely happen'? Mate, this is a make-believe situation, saying if Freo wanted to trade Palmer and Warnock for our first pick in the draft, would we want to?

It's obvious most of us agree that the No.1 or 2 pick is just too precious to trade, even for a pretty reasonable package like that which is fair enough, it was just a hypothetical (look it up if you don't know what it means) situation that got my brain ticking over.

What if you trade it for the #2 pick and players?

That's not so stupid a suggestion, and more realistic then trading pick 1 for just players.

If we finish last and they finish 14th, we'd be foolish not to consider trading pick 1 and a player (bode/jamar/fringe player) for say warnock and their pick 3.

So instead of getting just Naitanui, we could get Warnock and pick up Watts with pick 3. So we get a ruckman who is ready to go at AFL level(as a No.2) as well as a 10 year forward prospect, filling our 2 biggest holes.

That's something worth considering

impossible. the players from the draft have to play minimum 2 years with the club that picked them in the previous years draft. (or something like that)

I guess that's why it's a hypothetical, because it's not even actually possible. Suprised it took that long for someone to pick up, i missed it.

The actual rule is that you can't trade a player in the first year of their contract(palmer) and you have to give draftees a minimum 2 year contract (palmer again).

But the pick upgrade for warnock i suggested is actually a viable trade deal which we should consider if freo were dumb enough, which when it comes to trades they frequently are.

NO NO NO NO
Rule number one should be never trade anyone from FREO.....
Take Jeff White as an example, big name at freo came over to melbourne and is not worth a pinch of salt.........NO FREO PLEASE......

What are you, 13 years old? Did you see Jeff White play anytime before the last couple of years?

That's almost the stupidest post in the history of Big Footy.

What about the one in the Stefan Martin thread talking about our tall forwards that says something like "Bate's pretty tall and Miller is a decent size. And I think that just about does us."
