... You're not allowed to drink or eat while you're driving, but you're allowed to smoke.

Surely if you drop the smoke on yourself it is going to create a far bigger hazard then dropping a piece of lettice or spilling a bit of coke?

Thoughts?

You're not allowed to eat or drink when you are driving???

I've never heard that one before. If thats the case they would have a police car waiting for everyone outside the Macca's drive thru.

I am nearly 100% that is the law in NSW these days. That you're not allowed to eat or drink when you're driving AT ALL.

I stand to be corrected though ...

Sorry I've never heard of that one either. Maybe it is a NSW thing because I've never heard of it, I have seen loads of people do it including police officers. That sort of law would put fast food drive thrus out of business wouldn't it?

If it is wrong, I dont know where I got the idea from. Perhaps I dreamt it up, but I am possibly wrong then...

I agree. Cant send a text message but you can light a cigarette... I dont see the sense in it. Shouldnt be allowed to smoke while driving. Its dangerous in more ways than one.

Who says you can't send a text message either?

Although I would suggest sending sms's is much more dangerous than smoking would be. To send an sms you need to take your eyes off the road whilst smoking you don't, I have sent sms's whilst driving before and you concentration levels go right down, it becomes scary when you realise how far you have driven and you can't remember passing a whole load of different things/places.

I'm sick of being told I can't smoke somewhere else.. Having other peoples wills imposed on myself further and further as time goes on is ****ing infuriating.. All I have left is private property, outdoors unless otherwise signed and my car.. the lawmakers should **** off and leave those of us that smoke in peace to do our thing in the few places we have left. I've been driving and smoking for 5 years in which time I've seen countless non smokers cause accidents, I've not done so.

Are you serious????? You can't use your phone unless its got a hands free kit.

Maybe because writing a text message takes a lot longer than lighting a smoke. I've been behind several chicks trying to type sms' and it aint a pretty thing. Most can't sing along with the radio and drive properly at the same time:rolleyes:

why do they have drive through then? which is the dumbest idea in the world by the way coz the 14 year old just grown my first pube dopes that work there never give u something sturdy to hold it in. Yah like im gonna balance a tahitian sunday on its point while i drive!

I know you can't talk on your phone but who says you can't press the keys? It is pretty evident if you are talking on your phone as you have to have it up to your ear but if you are sending an sms then you don't need to do so. Police couldn't possibly fine you for doing so as you could simply state that you were just holding on to check the time.

As far as I'm aware there is no law preventing you from holding your phone whilst driving, just as you can hold a cigarette, PDA, etc. Although it is pretty silly as I believe sending sms's is much more dangerous than talking on your phone whilst driving.

What 'sturdy' thing would you suggest you could hold a waffle cone in?

BTW I don't think Maccas employs anyone under the age of 15, I could be wrong though.

Can you imagine how pi$$ed off you would be if they refused to sell you one through the drive thru for this reason :D I just thought it was unfair of you having a go at the kid with one pube, have a go at the multi-billionaire by all means ;)

Never heard about the 14 and 9 months bit, my sister was working at HJ's when she was 13 but couldn't get a job at Maccas because she had to be 15.

I'm pretty sure in Victoria you are not allowed to handle a mobile phone at all while driving, even while stationary at lights. Would be surprised if this isn't the case across most/all states.

i know for a FACT that you are not allowed to SMS whilst driving. it is extremely dangerous (moreso than talking on the phone). your eyes leave the road for a good second or two looking for the letters on the tiny keypad.

my dad was pulled over once for having a can of coke through a straw whilst driving one handed. although he only got a caution, the officer said he was lucky he was in a good mood.

So is giving way to a bus with an indicator on to come out of a bus bay, but I can tell you first hand that unless you just pull out and trust the fact that the idiots coming along behind you don't want to total their HSV or whatever against the side of a bus and will apply their brakes, no one obeys that one either.

As a bussie, I see some shocking stuff on the road.

Tradesman the other week with a drink in his left hand, and his phone in his right hand against his left ear...and steering with the back of his left hand.

Then there is the guy that calls me a c**t for stopping and picking up passengers....at a bus stop. I thought that's what buses were for.

Or the horn jockey who holds his hooter down for 30 seconds because I indicated to change lanes......which is only an announcement of my intentions. Now if I just switched lanes without signalling, then by all means, blow the horn, but for the love of Mike.

I have heard though that the drivers here (WA) are worse than anywhere else.

I have people speed up to close off gaps when I indicate sometimes.

I just change lanes anyway and laugh as they lay a track of rubber on the road as they brake to avoid a collision.

Not really:D

I usually just laugh and wave when someone gives me the "salute", I have enough stress in my life without worrying about what these idiots are doing.

Now what was this thread about?

Oh mobile phones.

I can SMS without looking at the phone. Just remember the 5 has a bump on it, and if you have predictive text, the words just spell themselves out.

I also know how many nmbers I have to scroll through my phonebook to find certain people.

I had at least a six message conversation with Mead tonight, driving the bus, in the dark, almost no looking.

It still is dangerous though, and I don't do it that often.

According to my Legal teacher (I don't do Legal, but you get what I mean), you can't smoke while driving. Cuz I asked him if you are allowed to stick a cigarette out the window whilst driving, and he said you can't even smoke. He could be wrong, but I mean...he is the Legal teacher. ;)

Doesn't affect me anyway...besides, I can't co-ordinate anything else except the CD player when I'm driving! :D

Its the law that you arent allowed to send text messages while driving, even at traffic lights. A new one as they're really cracking down on it lately.

And if you arent allowed to drink even a diet coke whilst driving, why the hell do car manufacturers get away with fitting drink holders to cars???
