It was the least they could do.

2008 - A new beginning for Essendon.

With Sheedy and Hird departing from Essendon at the of 2007, an era of success and brilliance from these two greats will end soon. Hopefully the new coach and our young players can start a new successfull era for this great club.

Finally someone who can see the bigger picture.

My father's one of the biggest Bombers fans there is. Remembers Essendon way back to the Coleman days. Reckons this is a huge mistake, and that the board has gotten ahead of themselves.

Bombers fans should remember that for the decade or so pre-Sheedy, your lot weren't doing to great.

:eek::eek: Disgusting, disgraceful and any number of other words you want to throw in there.:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

@ least Carlton only sack their coaches when we are losing.;)

We are losing. This will be the most unsuccessful 3 year period in Sheedy's coaching history. Averaging 6-7 wins each year over the period of a contract is probably as good a reason as any to move him on.

Buy your father today's Age and show him Rielly's article which explains why the board chose not to proceed with Sheedy. If Essendon want's to get back to being a powerhouse, and what board member wouldn't want that, it had to move. It looks to me as if the recruiting manager should be on his way with Sheedy.

In reality Sheedy wasn't sacked! His contract has expired and he is not being reappointed. That is a common scenario in the business world, a fact that Sheedy would appreciate more than others.

It is time for a new beginning. I love Sheedy as much as the next person, and given I'm 39, almost all my great EFC memories, involve Sheedy. But he can't coach forever, the split would have been traumatic no matter when it happened.

It's a very old adage, when one door closes, another one opens.
Good luck, but not too much against the Hawhs!

I think everyone in football is sad that the one constant in football is about to change. That said anyone who knows anything about football knows that we've been treading water for some time now and we're not going anywhere fast.

Love what Pagan said the other day: "If you look in the rear view mirror, you'll hit the car in front of you" I think this sums up the boards decision and I applaud them for looking at the long term picture.

Our future is not only post Sheedy and Hird, but also post Lloyd, Fletcher and Lucas. Yesterday we took the first steps in setting up this future
