...posters who are forever banging on about "If you had of told me at the start of the season we'd be 8-7 round 15 ,without Fev I wouldnt believe it!"

Fev was a f'ing cancer at the club and he made his own bed. We've had a few more options this year and haven't relied on that walking time bomb!

If people thought that this club was all about Fev and only Fev ,its a sad indictment on the playing group.

I'm sick of a million threads after a loss.

I'm sick of only a few threads after a great win.

I'm sick of being called a sugar coater because I don't want to level the club to ground zero after a loss.

I'm sick of delusional Carlton supporters who believe that we should be a top four side.

I'm sick of supporters calling Hampson and Robinson hacks because they're not Brad Ottens and Max Rooke.

I think the reason people fly of the handle after a loss is because they post on Bay 13 about how crap other teams are, then make stupid bets which they lose and then come back on the team boards and vent. True supporters these people are.:thumbsd:

this and I love how people are happy to vote for BOG after a win but never a loss

... the 50,000 posts that have described Fev as a 'cancer'.

Where is the spirit of success that saw us on the up and up last year?

It certainly hasn't flourished after Fev's departure.

Boring, poorly reasoned propaganda.

What would lift morale right now is a forward target that can lead and mark. And... dare I say it... kick a set shot.

That's why we go into our forward 50 two times less than the Bulldogs and get smashed by 70 points.

And it doesn't take a Rhodes scholar to work that out.

I'm sick of Bryce Gibbs being played across Half Back

I'm sick of Hampson and Grigg not being like Ottens and Rooke

.....and of course the quality of delivery would have improved to right?

I mean, with Fev there we used to deliver the ball lace out rather than just bomb it in on his head........RIGHT?

I never recall Fev cracking the sads due to poor delivery, or just crqacking the sads in general........ever.

.....and of course having Fev would have led us to tackle more than 12 times in the second half........right?

Because the ONLY problem we had on Sunday was no forward target........right?

Pressure on their ball carriers - check
Decisoin making and execution by our defenders and midfield - check
Pressure by our small forwards on their defenders - check
Forward targets - fail

Is that about it?

:o

I hope the irony of your post, in this thread isn't lost.........it's the only redeeming feature of this thread. ;)

You guys are hilarious.

Whenever an OP mentions Fev, you and The General police it like crazy.

You're obviously threatened by something - you're not on the selection committee are you?

Anyway, to respond:

Putting this game aside, the obvious, glaring problem with our team this year is a poor forward line structure.

We have a wealth of excellent crumbers but no genuine leading, marking targets. Part of this is coaching the players to get out in front of the defender with the right timing. I go to every Melbourne game and I can see what the midfield is looking at as they go forward - no obvious targets. And yes, as we all know in the old days, Fev used to shine out like a beacon as a target because he knew how to lead and got the timing right.

I'm sorry but Setanta just doesn't have those skills. He has a great passion, but he'll never have those natural skills required to take him to the elite as a marking forward. As a second forward, maybe. Even then, I'm not convinced.

Lachie is looking really promising but it's way too much to expect him to carry the weight at his age.

Waite is the most promising option we have in this department who can take also the pressure against elite defenders. He's not an elite forward but his combination of skills and workrate make him very handy.

I honestly think Thornton is worth a try as a second forward. He's a good set shot (despite having been lumped with defense for 6 or 7 years) and knows how to find a mark. He's at least a good distraction when the forward structure crumbles, as it regularly does.

I'm not just referring to last weekend. I'm referring to most of this season. Our forward line depth is alarming right now. Even if Lachie comes in good in the next 2-3 years (and I think he will), what happens if he pulls a hammy?

Our crumbers need leading targets to distract the defense from them and of course to benefit from a genuine contested play in the forward line.

Sure, am I pissed off that we gave away the exact player that we glaringly need right now. But that's done.

Am I also pissed off that we've done so little to focus our recruitment and coaching on leading and marking in the wake of ditching Fev? Hell, yes.

1 year, in a piss-poor draft for talls????

:confused: Henderson???? Casboult, Donaldson? White can play forward

odd

It's funny, no matter how many threads you have, no matter what the thread is called, it will end up being a venting thread...

People should start easing up and see the brighter side otherwise this Carlton board is soon becoming like the Richmond board.

You're right in what you're saying but this thread is supposed to be a venting thread.

And on that note I 'm not really sick of it because some posts give me the joy of pissing myself laughing but:

....people jumping straight on BF, usually after a loss and blowing a gasket.

Take a small breath and come on with some reasoning and that way we can all get along better.

Remember, think about the children.
