Eddy at 4 disposals.... now how about we get Hudghton in as a replacement forward for Eddy? He can be the defensive forward stopping someone like Corey Enright from taking a lot of marks and running off.

I would really like that hudghton is in - but playing in the forward line - just means that if things are not playing out the way they should - Dawson / Gilbert can swing forward and Hudghton can play back. I think this affords flexibility a lot. Alternatively, Hudghton can go back and free up fisher.

Either way I look at it - Hudghton affords much more flexibility than having Eddy in.

Looking back at the round 14 encounter as well - the fringe type players, e.g. Geary had very little impact (2 or 4 disposals). In a grand final, max. output from each player is crucial. That's why we need Max.

Lol, sorry but that's the worst case to mount for max. In the forward line? Not gonna happen

He may come in for eddy, but that will mean either raph or bj moves out of the backline

Your post = Emotion over Reality.

Emotion doesn't win you flags.

as much as i want to see max in i think if eddy goes out gwilt or dempster will come in, and i would preffer gwilt really gives us that extra hit up target across half foward

For 12 years he's been more than serviceable at FB. I just wonder isnt there some way he could come in and play off the bench or anything. Isnt there a fringe defender that could go out for him. Lets face it he's pretty good anyway. I wish he comes in, but in reality I can't see ross doing it.

If Max comes in, it could only be as a defender. He could take either Mooney or Hawkins and free up Fisher/Gilbert/Dawson to play more of a loose man running role or allow Goddard or Raph Clarke to move up the ground.

To play Max as a forward when he has hardly ever played there would be madness, akin to Collingwood playing Jason Cloke forward in the 2003 GF. Unlike Collingwood, who were missing Rocca that day, there is really no need for us to experiment with our forward line in such an important game.

Probably more likely that either Dempster/Geary/Armitage would come in for Eddy anyway. Also wouldn't be surprised if Eddy stays in the team given Lyon's reluctance to make changes.

I've already stated that I would like to see the Eddy - Hudghton swap, it would in my opinion allow Bj to be more dangerous instead of being exposed on power forwards and could very well alter the run from our own HF line with several people who can kick 50m+ accurately. Mooney will probably play the roaming forward leaving Hawkins and Ottens in the F50 for Blake - Dawson to take, Hudghton, Raph and Gilbo could then be used to guard the roaming forwards (Stevie J, Chapman, Byrnes) around the 50 mark while Chips takes Mooney, that way Goddard could play Eddy's role except we know that they'll actually kick it to him.

Agree

Mooney and Hawkins won't stray far from home and Max and Zac can take them one on one.
The Sam's and even Raph can rotate as loose man if possible.

Actually not a bad idea. The Cats will play Mooney, Hawkins and Ottens all in the forward line at one stage. Dawson, Hudghton and Blake to take those blokes. When Ottens is rucking, Dawson can go forward if he wishes. Last thing we want is a repeat of last Fri night with Goddard having to play as an accountable backman. Hudghton's versatility could also see him switch to Steve Johnson when he plays deep. This move seems a bit defensive but it will free up Gilbert and Fisher to play further up the ground and pump the ball inside our forward 50 and of course play loose in the backline when needed. Both Hudghton and Dawson have played in the same team on a number of occasions this year. Horses for courses, this seems like a good move. Don't be surprised if it happens.

Edit: I didn't realise that you're calling for Hudghton to play forward. Bring him in, but don't play him forward. Move Dawson, Clarke, Fisher or Gilbert up forward if we need too, not Hudghton.

playing defenders forward in GFs has worked in the past....Paul Deer for hawthorn kicked 6(?) goals in 1988

and wasnt Shane Allen for adelaide a defender and he kicked 5 in a GF didnt he??

Max wont play forwarrd though

If we're picking defenders to play forward and pinch hit my vote goes for Sammy Fish, good mark, good kick (usually) and good decision maker as well.

Because yeah, Max definitely should not play forward unless we were playing the Pies. :p

Dawson kicked 8 goals in a game for Box Hill playing forward last year.
He can also ruck a bit.

I think Sean Dempster will come in. Has played in a winning grand final for Sydney in 2005, although he only did have six disposals on that day.

i think he'll come into the side for eddy (but there were others were just as bad on fri if not worse)

but he'll go slot back and a rotation of fisher/gram/goddard through forward line...

id also like to see riewoldt play a decoy for kosi early in the game and try get some quick score on the board early in the game while we're a bit shakey

Would love to see Max in (there are suitable match-ups this time) and Goddard forward - Red Bull had a pretty ordinary game against the dogs as a defender.

But I think if any change will be made (got a feeling Horse is playing to instructions to drag the opposition's key backline runner out of the play, so there may not be a change) it will be Dempster.
