hi guys, quick question: inconsistency is the bane of most teams existence and clearly the mighty Pies suffer from this too. I don't think I'd get many arguments on that front.

So, my question is this: I watched the tigers game last night where you lost by 15 points, as I had backed you to win >39.5. The tigers are going horribly and after gws made a mockery of them (I saw that game with a tigers supporting mate) I thought they were completely and utterly gone. Anyway, so that's why I backed you guys to win >39.5.

"The pies aren't great" I thought "but they're a HELL OF A LOT better than the Tigers, this'll be a blowout."

Naturally when it was 25-0 I was rubbing my hands together gleefully.

However, then the inconsistency factor kicked in, and somehow you ended up losing to Richmond.

So, guys, it seems to me that this is the biggest problem you face: an inability to consistently reproduce the good form. My question is, what do you think is the source of this? Is it coach related? Is it cattle? Is it conditioning? Mental? Facilities? Eddie? What is the missing link? Because when you're playing well you look very promising, it's just that you're like the little girl with the curl - when you're good you're very very good, but when you're bad you're horrid.

What's your thoughts as to why? And how do you solve it?

You were a victim of the halo effect. Teams are not reducible to "not great" vs "terrible". Richmond were playing to redeem themselves after a week of being destroyed in the media, whereas we were playing to add four points as a footnote to a lost season, with no forward line.

The problem is the coach.

How he couldn't prepare the players for that, knowing what Rich, one were copping in the media all week was god damn ridiculous. I had been saying it ALL week. You just knew Richmond would come out. Having said that, I think the loss was more us allowing the, as opposed to them doing.

Which is still ultimately on Buckley. He's a f**king atrocious excuse for an AFL coach.

Buckley is confused on how to tank.

Combination of poor skills, decision making under pressure, confidence or belief, selection of team, conditioning.
Better skills coaches or at least a ruck coach would be a good start, clean out of fitness dept., team selection.

totally agree. the tigers came out like all hell had broken loose.... i think there were a few of our players who didnt want to resist them in the first 10 minutes or so. i was thinking about switching the telly off and walking away.....damn bucks
