This could be a great thing for people, kids etc who can't afford the massive cost of computers and new technology, it is being developed for the poor but I think would become a big seller around the world, especially for young students who don't have the basic access to education, what do you guys think?

Could this work allover the world? Or would it only serve in the poorer areas of the world?

It will work everywhere. Don't forget that initially the netbooks were created for poor countries and students. Now they are selling like hot cakes.

But they cost a little more than $35.

I think these 3rd world projects have little relevance for Australia. Do you guys really expect to get everything for free? Want a new Android phone for $5 outright? A tablet computer for $10? I think we need to be realistic. Are you guys so cash-strapped that news of a $35 PC interests you? How about airfares for a gold coin donation?

Yes life is tough as a student but we all go through it. Can't expect to have a BMW 3-series and 27" i7 iMac as a struggling uni student. But we should be able to scramble some money for a $2000 bomb and a 2nd hand PC for $500. Life is tough, but it ain't tough enough that we need a $35 tablet PC from India.

yep and they are popular and these will be popular.

Prepare to be very surprised then. I'm not sure how news like this can be anything other than interesting. Are we only allowed to be interested if the product has the 'i' in front of it?

Or for that matter are we only allowed to be interested in these type of products only if they are made in a so called 1st world country, you might not have noticed but Silicon Valley in the States was started by expat Indians, most doctors etc are from India as well and on top of that software engineers are from India as well.

The IIT's in India are world famous produce brilliant students who go on to make it big in their respective fields, just think that "third world" comment was uncalled for.

Agreed, Alpha.

I lived near Silicon Valley for a while. Certanly appeared as though those "third world" Indians had as good a reputation as anybody else there.

Yes it's an interesting story. But let's not kid ourselves and suggest that such a thing will swamp the Australian market.

I didn't mention Apple so you have no reason to, that's a ridiculous tangent.

Spoken like a true applefag. God you guys frustrate me. Uses the net, watches videos. $35. Cheers, thank you and good night.

This has nothing to do with Apple.

The 1st world will not be swamped by $35 tablet computers from India.

Use some common sense.

Yes well that's not the point. If you could get hold of it, you would. Simple.

I think it will find a huge market allover the world, if it's a good thing and it helps then whats so bad about it? Red+Black you have no idead mate, if you think putting words such as "third world" in to try and make it a put down.

India might still be a relatively poor country considering it's huge population, but you will be suprised at the many advance they have made, they were the first country in the world to launch 12 satellites into orbit at the same time, do a bit of research before trying to put a place down.

India is rising fast if you hadn't noticed, or if you only read the media which loves to put other countries down, this news is of huge interest, I would buy this product instead of like fan boys spend $900 on a piece of shit that has some logo on it and was made for $10.

Wow, great argument. So this thing could be huge, except you just can't get hold of it? Could be in every household but perhaps, just perhaps, something like this is not viable to distribute on a worldwide basis at $35 per unit?

You all continue to miss the point. I am not putting India down. I don't care if it's made in Ireland, Taiwan, Korea or ****ing Silicon Valley. You can't buy a cheap new prepaid phone for $35, what makes you think the world will ever become swamped with $35 tablet computers? Are we all driving around in $2000 Nano cars as the article reports? No, we're not. Is the cost of commodities plummeting down? No, not really, and in cases where costs are coming down, they are not on a scale that you're all suggesting. We'd all love to fly around Australia for $35 but is it economically viable and sustainable? No, it's not.

For the hundredth ****ing time, this has nothing to do with Apple, Microsoft, Google, RIM, HTC, HP, etc etc. How many real companies will be producing $35 tablet computers that can be produced sustainably and will become commonplace? A $200 Android tablet perhaps, but nothing for $35 or even $10 as per the article.

Feel free to talk about the validity of such products in the developing world, that's a valid discussion. You guys just bump the thread when you and a couple of your mates have purchased one of these. I'm guessing, I won't be hearing from any of you.

And for the record (again), I don't own a ****ing iPad.

Unfortunately linux is still very un-user friendly O/S so that is going to be a bit of a problem for them.

If Apple has shown one thing, the masses are very much in love with the gimmick...cum...gizmo...cum...novelty thingo so unless they move the O/S to something more commercial like snowpussy:)rolleyes:) or W7 then it might be a hard sell I think

If the iPhone didn't have iOS people would still buy it, most have no ****ing clue (based off unix anyway). For $35 most people would be willing to learn linux I'm sure anyway, its not that hard. Not like they will be required to do everything via the terminal...

Still, this tablet won't happen so its a non-issue.
