Well - I am totally into the very loosely defined genre of indie-pop after many years of Rock disillusionment. Whilst I treasure CD's in the collection from artists like the Shins, the Flaming Lips, REAL brit-rock and Elliott Smith (well his more upbeat songs) and am building up slowly with new albums which take my fancy.

2 particular artists' albums have been procured - Howie Day's "Stop all the world now" and Brendon Benson's "An alternative to love".

I had bought Howie Day's album "Australia" as a blind buy after hearing his rendition of "Help" from the I am Sam soundtrack. A good solid album, it was a first effort which I was very impressed with - however I got his second album - awesome, totally recommended - it's not going to change your life or start eating low GI margarine, but it's worth more then the price tag.

Brendan Benson is an artist I had never heard of, but after hearing one song off Pandora.com - I just had to dig deeper. The album is light, upbeat with some great melodies and totally recommendable!

This is a bit of a masturbatory thread that I want to devote to this genre, but to those who are looking for some new music, have a go at these artists.

Anyone else know of some new stuff that would satisfy my urges?

It is a pretty wide genre but some stuff I like is -
Hot Hot Heat, indie poprock band, their album Make Up the Breakdown is a classic.
Another artist to maybe check out is Ted Leo, has some great tunes. Shake the Sheets is my album of choice by him. I've heard he is coming back to Australia in the near future.

Indie-pop? Where do we start? The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Primitives, Talulah Gosh, The Pastels, Heavenly, Adorable, The Aislers Set, Birdie, Bis, The Boo Radleys, Clouds, Club 8, Cinerama, Wedding Present, Comet Gain, Velocette, Dambuilders, Dressy Bessy, The Earthmen, Even As We Speak, Field Mice, Girlfrendo, Belle and Sebastian, The Hummingbirds, The Lucksmiths, The Steinbecks, The Sugargliders, My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, Red Sleeping Beauty, Saint Etienne, Sebadoh, Spearmint, The Sundays, Sweet William, Velocity Girl, Black Tambourine, Razorcuts, Dolly Mixture, Pipas, Blueboy, The Orchids, The Wake, Another Sunny Day, Autocollants, The Springfields......

Thanks for the tip about Brendon Benson. :thumbsu:

I checked him out on amazon, liked what I heard and bought the album and I haven't regretted it since. Great album, very similar to the New Pornographers with better production and no Neko Case.

PS: Elliot Smith had upbeat songs?
