Hi guys, I'm sure this has probably been talked about already (I have been a little too busy for football these last couple of weeks), but does anyone else feel the logo used for the indigenous guernsey should replace our current one?

It looks really good, creative, has meaning, the use of colours is fantastic and it looks intimidating!
I'm going to be pestering the club about this one, for sure.

not a great logo as i had to look at it a while to see what it actually was.

at least with our current one you can look at and know straight away that it's a raptor head.
I think with 'Adelaide Crows' written below it, you could guess pretty quickly.

But it looks more like a crow than our current one! ha.

It looks like it's wearing one of these

Main problem I have with it is the curved beak.
But what we need is a brand new logo, something that's less kids club and more dark and intimidating.
I look at our current logo and it looks like what our club has been for 4 of the 5 years we've had it. Soft and weak.

In my opinion we need to go back to the crest that appeared on one of our heritage guernseys - can't remember which year to be exact. It's professional, proud and would be a real basis for embracing our history and building a real culture around the club. It's something the players can be proud to wear and also a good point of departure for the merchandising team to build from when creating pieces for fans to wear - perhaps clothing that wouldn't look out of place somewhere other than the footy. Having a logo like this, would go a long way to creating an image as a professional organisation and a proud football club - the complete opposite of our current gimmicky, cartoon logo which seems to mirror the way our club is currently perceived!

Yep it actually looks like a footy club logo and not an american franchise team

Would absolutely love if re-thought our image. We need to (re?)establish ourselves as an organisation with a level of prestige and class. Choosing a new logo with a look similar to those of Carlton or Melbourne would be the ideal starting point. Are Trigg and Chapman the ones holding us back by not addressing the issues of our club image?

They seem to think that the raptor head will appeal to kids and get the next generation of fans. Clearly Collingwood isn't having an issue with attracting young fans with a traditional logo, nor Manchester United, Barcelona etc. Is there a worse CEO-Pres/Chairman double act in the AFL?

I completely agree with you. The thinking seems to be that we have an ageing fan base and need to attract young blood to ensure the future of our club - all true IMO. They seem to think that having this cartoony logo will help but it really doesn't. Neutral / new fans to sports tend to follow who has the most momentum - hence Port Adelaide's emergence. If we can create some of our own momentum by establishing tradition and embracing our history to create an infectious, winning culture around our club, newcomers will naturally be attracted to our cause. At the moment we seem to lack direction in everything we do and rebranding the club can be the beginning of an overhaul that will drive our club forward.

Looks like it's trying too hard to capture the "old fashioned football" style. People might not like the Americanisation of logos these days, but that's what's in now. It separates the history-obsessed EPL from the modern NFL. Like it not, that's the way the AFL is going.

I think you'll find in AFL clubland the reverse is true. Recently we have seen Carlton, Freo, Geelong, Melbourne, North Melbourne and Richmond unveil new logos and they have all been in the traditional style. The Giants and Suns went the other way but they had no supporters to begin with and are still establishing themselves as clubs, the Lions also went down the NFL path to great backlash. The AFL might look to the NFL on rules and regulations but it seems the clubs are no longer paying attention to their marketing strategies.

Carlton have always had an old-fashioned logo. Updating it to another doesn't make much difference. Geelong have a shield but it's pretty modern looking with the cat. North are much the same, as are Richmond. Having a shield shape doesn't mean it's tending towards the past, it's just a stylistic choice. In all the cases I've just listed, there are vibrant mascots and club colours.

The image you're backing for our logo is text on a shield with some latin thrown in for good measure. Makes no sense to go back to that style, because we aren't an old club and we've never tried to be seen as such. Leave that nostalgic circle jerk to the clubs who still think they're in the VFL or the SANFL.

I believe the words I used were 'traditional style' of which those club logo's are. And any logo with a shield is traditional style; the NFL style logos are a giant cartoon animal with out of place text below (adelaide, brisbane, west coast) I concede that the logo I use as my avatar does need some work. If we could have something in the same vein as the Fremantle logo it would go along way to creating that football club image as opposed to expansion franchise.

Making a classic and timeless stylistic choice with the shield does not suggest we are an old club. Perhaps the feature of the shield - the "AFC" monogram could be the focal point of a new logo? Using the monogram would give a nod to our history rather than trying to incorporate the "old fashioned football" style.

The new Fremantle logo is a great example. It's clean, simple and elegant.

You're entitled to your opinion, so I won't post back and forth trying to change your perspective. But I will say that I don't like monograms for logos, at all. They're fine for one-offs and official documents etc etc. But not logos, for mine.
