Hello everyone.


I am ready to begin playing online poker. I know there are threads for this topic but it'll be easier for me by having my own.

I want to know from those of you that do already play, what the best thing to do is?

eg. How much is a good amount to deposit? Should I play tourneys or ring tables? Any other info would be appreciated too

Hey mate.

I posted a similar thread. I started this weekend.

I loaded up Poker Stars and Party Poker, much of a muchness really.

I went with Party Poker simply because if there was an off chance of winning something I could get it out easier.

I've got no problems with the site... they have $3 tourneys upwards. They also seem to have a lot of promotions. Like now they have a bad beat jackpot for people with a four of a kind who get beat... (the whole table gets shares of the jackpot - 50% for the four of a kind, 25% winner, 25% to rest of table)

They also have beginner tables, rookie freerolls and all that jazz.

Never thought I'd be talking about this stuff.... didnt take long.

get some free books and poker software with your money.

tourneys are a risky option because you can play well and continuously finish outside the money. If you don't have a lot to start with than that can go pretty quickly. Perhaps sng's will be ok.

Find a game and limit that you are comfortable with.

I deposited $50 at Poker Stars the other night and after about 4 or 5 of play I'm sitting on $50.31.

I started off playing low limit cash games and struggled initially. It's a hard one because when you play on such low limit tables you always seem to get people calling your raises and then revealing something like Q7 to beat you. At the same time, when you're just starting out you don't really have the money or the experience to play against the better players in the more expensive tables.

For now I think I'm better off playing the Sit and Go's. I've had a 1st and a 2nd in the 2 $1.50 NL 18 player events that I've played so far.

Just had a 3rd then so it's rocketed up to $52.21 now. Bearing in mind it's $US I've nearly got myself into Happy Meal territory.

Play another 493 $1 or $1.50 SNG's and I'll get my $50 bonus too.
