****ing Thieves...

This afternoon at 3:30pm, I came home from uni only to find that the house had been broken into. If only I was home when they had tried to break in... Thankfully they didn't take too many expensive items (other than the car). I guess they were just looking for cash or small, portable items that would be easy to sell.

My questions are: Have you ever had your house broken into before? Were you home when it happened? And what sort of security does your house have?

Or, alternatively: Have you ever broken into someone's house before? :D

Shi* thats bad for you:( Hope you get your car back..

And yes my house was broken into- last year.. I just happened to have a curriculum day and slept until about 12- when dad came home, and I woke up- the dogs were in, the laundry door was open, the house was a mess and dad asked me why there was 50 bucks missin from his cash tin (he goes to some woodwork club and sorts out all the money, the cash was from that)

I said I had no idea, I had been asleep all morning/day, I also said I had no idea why the dogs were in, and then we looked around the house and found alot of mess.. however- nothing seemed to be missing accept the 50 bucks- and possibly a camera.. we asked the neighbor if he had seen anything, and 5 minutes later dad was just off to the police station when our neighbor came over and said
"The police are up the road"
There had been another burglary up the road - dad went up and had a chat and the police came down- asked some questions- and we heard that someone saw a suspicious person adn followed them, but lost them..

A while later, got a phonecall- burglar had been captured- was just going up the street, wandering into any house- had no particular targets.. and we might have to go to court- nothing eventuated tho..

We were pretty lucky.

Go Roos

I have never been robbed.

When I was living at home with my parents we were robbed twice and it felt really surreal coming home from school seeing your room and home ransacked.

The cops as per usual, didnt do anything and my parents lost a bit. Insurance wasnt a luxary back then.

Friends of ours had their car swiped last week - absolute one-off fluke that the door to their pool area got left unlocked, and sure enough the one time it was unlocked...two guys jumped the front wall, came in, grabbed the keys on the bench. Bye bye car. Was found in the northern suburbs after being used in a few more burglaries :(

A while back - on the eve of Valentine's Day, no less - all of Aunty Shell's sexy knickers were pinched off the clothesline.

I just wonder who was the lucky lass who woke up on Valentines Day to find a card, a rose and Aunty Shell's knickers waiting for her...

I am of the belief that if you catch somebody breaking into your home you should be allowed to kill them. I'm not talking in self defense either, you should be able to say to the cops 'yeah, he apologised profusely and gave back everything he took, but i decided to blow his f***ing head off anyway".

I had my house broken into over 12 months ago. I left home at around 12 noon and returned at 3.00pm. In that time they had broken in and helped themselves to anything they wanted. Including jewellery, electrical equipment, cd's, dvd's, videos, alcohol, food, paintings and prints from the walls and doonas from the beds.
What they didn't want they smashed and broke. They emptied bottles of red wine over a cream coloured lounge suite and emptied bottles of spaghetti sauce and other food over the carpets. A week or so later the police recovered a couple of the stolen things, but the others have gone forever.
Insurance can cover most of the stuff even the replacement for a new lounge suite, and cleaning for carpets and walls. But insurance can never cover items that were irreplaceable.

Just once, I'd like to catch a thief. I don't ask for much do I? In the ADF, esp the Navy, where people are living literaly in each others pockets (a ratings mess on a guided missile frigate is approx 14x14x2 = 66 men sharing 3 showers, 4 heads and 4 sinks) thievery is the lowest of the low. You have to trust people with your life, and to have that trust broken by a thief is shattering, and can lead to serious morale problems. In the 'old navy', thieves caught were placed in front of those they had thieved from, and the victims were told to make the thief 'presentable' for the Captains Mast. How I wish we could still do that.

This translates for me into my civilian life....I farken hate thieves!!! Taking stuff the easy way, things others have worked hard for....IMO it's the worst thing you can do to another human, aside from killing them. I would just like to catch one, with a cricket bat handy....

Pity the rest of the world doesn't understand the stand by your mate mentality
A mate in need was a mate indeed.

I think you misunderstood my intentions behind starting this thread. I did not start this thread asking for sympathy, I started it to ascertain the level of security in modern houses and the severity of robberies.

We are thinking of getting an alarm system but would it really be worth it? Most people just ignore alarms when they go off.

Caught a guy trying to break into a mates car at a party once. Unfortunately when we went to kindly (;)) convince him to leave he ran off. Tell ya what though, the prick could run bloody fast.

My dads car got stolen once while shopping at Highpoint. Ended up being a blessing in disguise as the insurance payout was more than we would have expected to get had we tried to sell it (and we were planning to).

Only security we have here is a big f***ing dog never any problems only thing is he is going on holidays for 2 weeks so I guess I am going to have to be careful & stay home more.

when i was young we used to live in the inner city. this one time thieves had broken into our house when we were on holiday and had every bit of furniture, clothing, jewellery, everything in the front room ready for the removal truck waiting outside. by sheer chance my uncle was passing by and saw this going on. not quite sure what happened to the thieves but we didnt lose our stuff.

since moving to dee why, our house has never been broken into. we leave windows and back doors open for people who forget to take their keys, and still haven't had any problems... touch wood.

i think contents insurance is a must!!! photograph everything you have that is of any value because it will be a nightmare trying to prove to these stingy insurance companies that you had that DVD player, oak dining table or jewellery which you dont have a reciept for
