Matera ready to return

Phil Matera is ready to play this weekend.

The good news that West Coast Eagles fans have been waiting on was delivered by coach John Worsfold on Wednesday afternoon before his team trained under lights at Subiaco Oval as they prepared for their clash with Carlton this Saturday night.

Worsfold said the mach committee expected the wily forward pocket to return on Saturday.

“Yes, we do – he’s training well,” he said. “He’s like anyone who’s missed a couple of weeks of footy – he’s ready to go.

“He’s fully fit and very keen to get back into action.”

And the good news kept coming – key talls Michael Gardiner and Glen Jakovich are both expected to play this weekend.

“Both are very good chances to come up and play this week – they’ve still got to prove that to us, but I’m fairly confident they’ll be right.”

Rounding it all off, Daniel Chick, who had his troublesome shoulder operated on at the start of the week, is expected to miss just two weeks of football.

“It all went very well, apparently, and so we expect him to be back – we hope he’ll only miss the two games (and) be ready to go.

“He’d be a very good chance just to miss two games – that was the understanding we had with him going into the surgery, that that would be around about the down time.”

good stuff. this means that we will be close to full strength.

Well if that means both Gardiner and Matera are in's while Jako isn't an out, I'd be leaning towards this combination v Carlton:

In's: Gardiner, Matera, Lynch/Staker
Out's: Chick, Wilson, *****

*****I was saying Cox at the start of the week, but i think he should stay (a combination of reviewing my own thoughts, and having a bit sense put into my by other guys).

but I still want to see either Lynch or Staker come in - in fact we have to bring in one of those two or Carroll otherwise we'd only be playing 1 tall back plus Jakovich. We need to have someone support Glass.

Perhaps Humm would be the man to go.

I'd imagine Humm now that Read is back in, but I wouldn't be surprised if Jakovich is given a week off.

***** - I was sitting here for a good ten minutes trying to work out who has a censored name. Use ##### next time :D

I'm hoping Carroll doesn't get called up, Lynch would probably be a good strong body for someone like Whitnall or McKernan when he's up forward.
