I don't see it as a problem. With Judd being so heavily tagged, Murphy has been on absolute fire. I think Judd turns himself into even more of an inside player when he is tagged, even in his quite games he gets a hell of a lot of tackles and a decent amount of contested possessions, which frees up Murphy and the rest.

With Robinson having another pre-season to build his frame, I think he and Curnow will be able to help out Judd even more next season. I would be more worried about keep position players.

Could be an option as he can play on the HFF and possibly rotate with Army/Robbo as our inside mid.

Army could be an option for an in and under midfielder with his rugby union background and the fact they are used to smashing into each other at speed and then fighting it out under a pack of players to get the ball out.

Just that he needs to learn how to handball instinctively to advantage and that takes a while.

I suspect that the Eagles would want someone like Bower or Lucas in trade for Kobe, along with the usual trading of meaningless picks and I suspect that might be a bit too much from our side for Kobe.

I cant even imagine what Robbo would do with an extra pre-season, 4 kgs of muscle and a licence to block for Judd.. I'd certainly cough up for a membership to get along and see though!! Might only be able to see it every couple of weeks between suspensions but would be well worth the entry!

hey guys, first of all just wanted to say that your club has had a fantastic year despite injury setbacks to waite and the like.

In regards to Koby Stevens, who I believe is quite highly rated at the club, he is an inside midfielder and recently had a great year in the WAFL with the Sharks playing consistent footy, was always one of the best performed players for us in our reserves. According to the WAFL website, he has played 19 games averaging 22 disposals and 4.3 tackles a game.

He is a solid build and goes in very hard at the footy (similar to mitch robinson). I remember in his early WAFL games, he was constantly injuring himself because he'd go in too hard at the footy which prompted our staff to help him change aspects of his game so he wouldn't compromise his safety all the time.

I believe he has been very close to being called up a few times this season but due to our depth in this position, he's had to toil away in the WAFL. If matt priddis went down, Koby Stevens would probably slot in to his role quite comfortably.

Just thought i'd give you a bit of background on Koby Stevens as I think he would be a great fit for your club in that inside mid role and help Carlton out substantially. Hope this has been helpful. Goodluck in 2012!

I think Gibbs was absolutely the missing link last night. Sure we had Waite and Kreuzer out, but Waite has been out for ages, and kreuzers form has been a little dubious. Gibbs on the other hand has been involved in a lot of play, is a skilled user of the footy, and importantly kicks goals. In fact, those set shots murphy missed last night would normally have been taken by Gibbs I think. The man makes a difference.

I agree. Say what you want about Gibbs not being the biggest "hard at it" player but he went into the middle (think it was the second quarter?) against Essendon and he was throwing himself around like Robbo. Also adds that extra little bit of class in his disposal and decision making and it's another bit of class that the opposition will have to worry about.

He was drafted as midfielder and I think we may see him start making the transition into a full-time mid over the next one or two seasons.

Curnow has lost confidence in his body after getting injured the first time so we are going to have to find someone else.

He was injured for half of the 2010 VFL season. It's natural that he could lose a bit of confidence if he has a really serious injury in 2010 and then comes here and gets injured again. He's only a young kid (22?) so by no means we have to start looking for someone else because from his early season form he fit the bill perfectly.

The brilliant thing about Robbo is he can do a shut down job on a fletcher or run free like a mad man getting his 30 touches.

Soon enough the opposition will have to work out whether to tag Judd, Murphy, Gibbs or Robbo.

It still baffles me why eagles fans still think they got a bad deal for Judd. Remember he could have walked for nothing but instead you got one of the best CHF's in the league plus pick 3 and 20.

We ended up making the deal worthwhile with superior development but the fact that we didn't get pick 1 effectively burnt the trading bridge between the 2 clubs.

It's pretty well known over here that the Eagles hierarchy wont go out of their way to help Carlton at the trade table.

This superior devolpment you are talking about is that the development that helped Notte spend his final year playing swan district reserves after he couldn't beat Peter Sumich in a time trial.

Did you hear 35,000 eagles fans cheer when Masten got subbed out of the game on saturday night.

It seems to me the only reason Kennedy is any good is because he spent time at Carlton.

would also straighten up a lot of opposition midfielders... apart from the splayed limbs bent into unnatural shapes.

But seriously, if he stopped trying to knock himself out every game, then he would be the ideal in and under midfielder. He isnt slow and putting an extra 4-5kg of muscle on him wouldnt take anything away from that speed.

I could see him and Curnow working well together as inside mids.

Ball had been fast in the past, so speed was already a genetic capability (fast twitch/slow twitch). He was also held back by OP. Brock never has been fast and likely never will be. I might be wrong, but when i was studying it was widely believed that a guy with a majority of fast twitch fibres COULD be trained to develop more slow twitch fibres and thus be a better distance runner, but at the time it was believed that it couldnt really be done the other way around, ie slow twitch to fast twitch. Mind you that was the going belief 5 years ago.

No speed for brock. Not anything significant anyway.

I like Robbo in the middle and would like to see him there permanently next year. Seems to be able to read 206's taps in particular pretty well.

I guess there are now questions around Ed's durability which will hopefully be unfounded. Was very surprised at the massive fall, even with the shoulder which still appeared good enough for VFL.

No disrespect for Davy but he's a small unit and if everyone else was fit I could see him being left out of the side.

All the top sides have at least one big bodied mid at ball ups and we need our own. Hopefully thats Robbo and a fit Ed.

Rhys O'Keeffe might rival Mclean for pace and agility, but he'd the back flanker I'd try as a mid/flanker. ROK has the body, decision making and hardness that might allow him to play that sort of role. If the likes of Rockliff, Hocking, Robinson and Ellard who aren't speed machines can progress to the middle, then I wouldn't rule out O'Keeffe from making the transition. Endurance is the thing that would really need to improve if O'Keeffe is to make it. And needs to stay healthy. That left foot and genuine size offers more than Ellard who started as a small forward. Robinson isn't as fast as Lucas and Grigg, but wills himself to run hard and put his head over the ball. See similar traits in Rhys who has shown improved straight line speed in the last few VFL games.
