I think everyone is continuously ripped off... Ad it all up - house and contents, landlord insurance, car insurance, private health, business insurance.
I pay roughly a combined total of $310 a month on insurance or $3720 a year. Have done this for about 12 years so roughly have spent 25k (conservatively) on insurance over the years.
My claims - braces on my teeth and insurance on a VT wagon after I was carjacked by some aboriginals - Total of around 9k.
Theres probably a few other medical benefits but even $12k would be a stretch.
Lately im not convinced its worth it. Theres insurance for everything these days - travel, pet etc. Theres a market for it because a lot of people pay for insurance but not many claim.
Ive read stories of people who put money into an "insurance" account. Its just a savings account, but its then their money and can use it if needed. But if they dont use it, then they still have it.
As for the OP, I think I was ripped off when I was carjacked. I was ambushed walking to my car to get a stubby holder out whilst at a bucks party and 2 aboriginals jumped me from behind, knocked me out and threw me in the car. 1 held me from behind and the other drove. I jumped out when I came to, and got pretty shredded from the road. They kicked me in on the floor and robbed me. I staggered to a house and called the cops, who after filing a report, came back and accused me of organising an insurance job, or crashing the car myself (the car was found up a gutter a suburb over with spew on the back seat, glove box kicked off, trashed interior and my mobile ph under the passenger seat). Because of what the cops said I was investigated by some private investigator guy from Real Insurance. It took 2 months for my insurance to go through - I got $4000 for my car but had paid 1500 renting a car, lost a weeks pay at work, and various other expenses. So why was I paying insurance when I was treated like that when I needed the insurance?
