Did anyone listen to KB talking to Greg Denham (The Australian) on SEN this morning.

Apart from Denham stating 100% that his sources advise that Bomber will coach Geelong next year he also revealed an interesting stat which showed that Geelong - currently with 11 1/2 wins for 2006 had only a marginally better position at same time last season with 12 wins.

If that's correct - sort of puts it all in perspective does'nt it ??

I know we all wanted to go ahead but I don't think we've gone to far backwards have we ????

So because we have only gone a little bit backwards, things are ok then??? We should be improving, with the young list maturing, but we have gone fron Prelim final, to Semi final, to missing the finals....the graph is heading downwards, not upwards as it should be...

I agree - but that's not my point. If we win this week we're close to last year and were a kick from the prelim.

My reference is more to the knives being out for the coach. Geelong has won 7 1/2 of last 11.....a poor season based on expectations but not the nightmare people are suggesting.

Finally someone with a brain....no one can deny its been a frustrating year but it not all doom and gloom as some Bomber haters would love to think. Remember these people as they will be crying about the new coach whoever it is or whatever he does.

I'd suggest that we're actually flattered by our record. We were never going to be terrible given the talent in our team.

We've won some games, but rarely (apart from rounds 1 & 2) playing good football for more than 2 quarters.

We've lost to sides who have no right beating us (Hawthorn, Richmond at SS)

We've lost playing embarrasingly bad, pathetic football with no apparent effort from players (Collingwood, Kangas, Adelaide).

The players have played most of the year as if they have no confidence at all, with poor skills, decision making and cohesion.

We've won a games playing ultra-defensive flooding tactics (St. Kilda) that won't get us anywhere.

We've lost from 9 goals in front in the 3rd quarter (WC)

We've been undisciplined (Mooney).

We've had no Plan B when Plan A doesn't work (lets flood against Collingwood, oh, thats not working, lets lose by 17 goals).

Young players with questionable commitment who should have improved have stagnated or gone backwards (Kelly, S. Johnson, Tenace etc).

A change of coach won't change all these things, but 7 years is long enough IMO. A new coach and assistants might be able to target improvements in game plan, skills work, team cohesion, discipline and player development. We have the talent, but our opportunity will come in the next 3-4 years, while Scarlo is still playing and with the bulk of the midfielders in the 25-30 age bracket.

If we don't change now, it may be too late.

One of the best posts I've ever read.

Let's not also forget that last year we weren't that good. We finished fifth on the ladder, won just over half our games and lost 8 out of our last 13. Yes, our record is similar to last year's, but then we were were flattered by beating the 8th placed team in the Elimination final, and collapsing in the Semi. That's it.

Yep. Can't find fault with either argument. I'll sum it up quite quickly and succinctly. We've had the same guy in charge for 7 seasons now, and we have clearly gotten worse the last 2 years.

As far as keeping him as coach, there's a word for doing the same thing and expecting a different result.........

Insanity.

What about the teams that have leapfrogged us this year?

Our W/L record might be similar, but it's means nothing when 9 other sides have a superior record.

volcboy's excellent post says it all.

excellent post volcboy. I think Geelong still has very good potential, I think a new coach might be enough to get us moving up from the catreogy of a good team and outside chance to geniue premiership contenders.

It shows that since Cresswell has left as midfield coach, we're basically a .500 team.

And with the talent we have on our list, that's unacceptable.

that was a great post volcboy :) , we have the potential to do great things n plenty on young guns coming up, so lets hope the coaches n the players can get it rite next season, n hopefully prove we r a victorian powerhouse club:D
