In the Herald Sun under the Fremantle team there was a very interesting comment. It noted that Fremantle had finished 16th in clearances last year and the recruitment of Headland should help.

Now Headland is a good footballer, but a ball getter he is not. Des needs the ball dished out to him, and won't have a marked impact on Freo's work at stoppages.

True but having headland there means that Bell and Cook dont have to do both the feeding and the receiving or all the running the lines. Course it helps.

It was our weak point last year but has been addressed with Des,
recruitment of Schammer , the return of Daniel Haines , the marked improvement of Andrew Browne and the promotion of "The Ogre" to give Snake a bit of quality support in the ruck.

So watch out! :)

BTW Big Aaron can play, he is not gangly like a lot of really tall players. He does not look as tall as he is because he is built like a brick ****house. All 114kg's of him and still growing.

P.S. Can pencil in a win against the teams without a ruckman (i.e. Pies and the Bombers) as they wont be able to get the ball . ;)

When you can pencil in any win against any little league side outside of Perth then some teams may start to consider whether they should contemplate worrying.

Bell? Feeding? You must be watchnig a different Peter Bell to me.... that guy is the biggest seagull on the planet. Thats why opposition teams let him run around on his own... because he recieves most of his kicks in the backline deep in defence and doesn't hurt the opposition..... and headland isn't too far off that. Thats why I was happier to get Chick than Headland because Chick does the hard stuff under the packs to get the ball out. I don't think Headland is the player the Dockers needed.

Correct Kenny, Hard ball gets at Brisbane 2002:

1: Simon Black 106
2: Micheal Voss 70
3: Des Headland 53
4: Nigel Lappin 47

So he can get in and get it even in illustrious company like that.
how can I bookmark this thread so I can show Chris_dudd how ill informed he is at the end of the year?

I didn't watch a heap of brisbane games last year but I do remember him recieving the ball on the flank and taking on the defenders. He got quite a few goals late in the year this way IIRC.

I'm not saying he doesn't get into the packs but with the midfield strength of Brisbane last year he was able to be used in attack.

Yep he can do it all. Just what we need. Thanks again for minding him for us Brissie.

I also noticed a mistake in the Port Adelaide section. It clearly stated that Port was the most accurate team in front of goals in '03, even though St. Kilda was.

Yeah, he did run forward when he could and was on the recieving end which let him kick quite a few goals but when the ball was near him, he was at the bottom of the pack trying to get the ball out.

Haselby as far as first ball get is almost second to none, in close and the ability to dish it out he is very strong and will be even stronger this year.
Along with Cook and Bell the in and under players are very strong, headland was recruited to be the finisher, the type of player to kick it long into the forward line.
And thus far he has been that

Ah the Sabre of the Eagles Board.

That's your view, but I think a bit of studying the subject before you shoot your mouth off, would help.

Freo needed a finisher, a player who could move the ball over lines. Headland is that player.

Query?, are clearances classified as getting the ball out of a pack to a "receiver" or is it classified as the "receiver" moving the ball on?. Freo would have been ok in the first bit, the second bit was the problem.
