I'm going away for a week and i was wondering if i can use the internet by just taking my modem and plugging it into a phone line. If it makes a difference it's broadband not dial up.

Does it work like this or am i just a n00b?

You ARE A NOOB!

nah, mate you cant use it as it has to be within your telephone number.
So like say for instence your telephone number was 000 and you tryed
connecting it through phone line 001 it wouldnt work because the number
it is connecting through hasnt had authorisation from the ISP(Internet Service Provider).

Thanks for that. :thumbsu:

So, other than buying an internet connection would there be any way to get this to work?

Not really true. It has to be connected to any phone line using the same ISP.

Where are you staying when you go away? Most hotels these days have wi-fi available.

You could go with that pre paid modem stuff from unwired, but there gona charge you $170 for the modem then whatever else the useage charges are on top of that, so it's not cheap for a one off useage.

Otherwise just some sort of pre paid dial up account from a retail shop, I used to do that for short term use, works out a fair bit cheaper and you only require a telephone line and cord of cause and your done, obvious draw back is the dial up speed.
