Hi all I am after some advice.

I need to assist at work in editing a webpage (home page +some minor details on others) while the boss is away but at this stage all I have been left with is an FTP address and password as well as some basic admin access. Not sure if this is enough to go on or do I need more access?
Unsure how to proceed. It is only a couple hours work so would be keen to just do it rather than handball it over to consultants and have to organise fees etc etc
I'm very inexperienced in this line of IT and not really sure how to go about this.

Thanks

That's enough to go on.
Using an FTP program, log in to the ftp address using the username and password provided. From there, you have access to all the website html pages, and folders containing data, images etc.
From there, you would download pages you need to work on to your desktop computer, and then use a html editing program to make changes etc as you need to, then you would upload that page back to the original location, overwriting it. Also ensuring that any new images/data you added in would also be uploaded to the appropriate folder(s) on the server.

Thanks mate.

Can get halfway but the FTP folders read like Chinese to me. No idea where the homepage file is or what to download. Keep getting error messages or an unvalid file message. Might just have to wait.

I have done it before using a different server and site but must have fluked it as this reads totally different.

Hard for me to advise if I cant see it but usually the main webpage files are ditectly in the main folder and not in subfolders. But thats usually for simpler websites.

How about tell mr what the name of all the folders are and ill have a stab.

Or just open each folder till you find the one that houses all the .html or .php files.

The main homepage is most often called just index.html or index.php

If I go into the file manager (the main folder) folder I get files
access logs,
etc,
mail
public_ftp,
public html
and temp.

In the public html folder is a home php folder which when I open just gives a bunch of code.

I probably need an admin login to the website direct but don't have it so will just have to put things on hold. I have got no idea how this has been organised.

Thanks very much for the help and explanation thou GG. I at least know where the major content is stored if I need to call a contractor.

Is the website hosted on a hosting website or on an IIS web server within your work?
