I'm going to the Adelaide game again, in between a holiday with the missus along the coast to take in some sightseeing and wineries.

I'll probably also fly up for the Sydney game.

Went for a road trip for the Crows game last year with Ninty and Buddha last year and had a blast.

Some time in the near future, I'm going back to Australia, mainly to see football. Was going to bring this up eventually, but since the thread started, may as well ask here. When getting tickets, do you have to buy ahead of time or from the actual ticket window -OR- are there tickets floating around on the street outside the stadiums?. For sports here in the US, I rarely buy from Ticketmaster ("that'll be $6 per ticket handling charge and $12 per order, sir.......plus your first child") and usually get them from scalpers. I.E., can I just show up at the stadium on game day and find a ticket?

It depends on which ground you go to really.

Any game at Simonds Stadium this year i would recommend buying them in advance due to the redevelopment.
If you go to a game at Subiaco (Perth), AAMI Stadium (Adel), and possibly Godl coast i would recommend buying them in advance as the games can be quite popular.
MCG, Etihad and any other games you can buy on the gate.

Unlikely to find people outside the stadium selling/scalping tickets unless it is the GF.

Hope that was helpful.

One of the things I was stunned by when I went to the US was the amount scalpers at any sporting event. You're really lucky to find more then a handful outside of the GF here, and it's illegal to scalp at the GF anyway not that it stops a lot of people.

Depends what ground you plan on going to. If it's to Simonds Stadium then definitely buy the tickets online before the game (you can print them out), while most other grounds other then in Perth, Crows games in Adelaide and Essendon games at Etihad rarely sell out and you can just buy tickets at the game if you'd rather. In Melbourne it's incredibly easy just to turn up to a game and buy tickets since the stadium, MCG never sells out during the season although you can end up with nosebleed seats for big matches, and Etihad tends to only full if it's Essendon playing a Vic team or a match at Etihad that really should be at the MCG (e.g. Geelong vs St Kilda a few years back).

Thanks for the advice, fellas. Had a feeling Simmonds (priority #1) would be a little tougher to get into than most....and honestly, wouldn't mind the nosebleeds at the MCG because the field is huge and think the high view couldn't be too bad.

Scalping in the US all depends on where you are and more importantly, how big the game is. Some places it's legal....some it ain't. As you can imagine, some games are a big draw and it's a seller's market. You're gonna' have to take a big sack of cash. Go to a Chicago Cubs game late in the season and it's the opposite....the scalpers will almost pay you to take tickets off their hands.

As for the Cats.................finally, the FIRST live Cats game I ever get to see (GF '11 was delayed) was that hair ball they coughed up against Richmond. I'm assured that NAB Cup is just a dog-and-pony show compared to the regular season (like NFL pre-season here...practically meaningless). I hope this is right because that was ugly.

The nosebleeds are pretty bad, but it won't be a problem unless there is 80-85k+ because you won't be up that far. I like being near the front of the top level at stadiums personally since you get to see most of the action all around the ground while not being too far back. Anything in the first 20 rows or so on the top level at the G are good. Not to mention it's cheaper then being on the bottom level :p

But yeah at Simmonds definitely buy them beforehand. It was hard enough to get in before they demolished the Wade Stand, will be much tougher this season. General admin tickets will probably only get you standing room.

Haha well I was just going to regular NBA games, and even in Charlotte there was heaps of scalpers despite the fact the Bobcats are terribad. Probably more there then there were at MSG

NAB Cup means virtually nothing. We've been smashed like that before in it and been fine during the season. Not gonna press the panic button just yet.
