Wait...so both Lauderdale and North Launceston are called the Bombers?

Begs the question...why?

Those nicknames are not confirmed, just those used last year. I remember reading somewhere though that AFL Tas will not force either team to change if there preference is to keep their identity.

Same issue with Glenorchy and Devonport both being the Magpies. All others would remain the same I'd imagine except maybe Hobart who could revert back to the Tigers (Kingpin will be able to fill you in on that though).

Wonder if Lauderdale will go back to being the Cats?

Very much doubt it mate, they have an affiliation with Essendon, which I doubt they would want to cut. Especially with their boy Sammy Lonergan doing so well....;)

Would love to see the clubs revert back to their original logos, guernseys etc. Just like the good old days of the TFL...

That's probably fair - in 2009 WA plays SA, usually Victoria don't play Queensland so I doubt they will next year. I'd expect Tassie v Queensland in Brisbane or the GC (given the last game was at York Park from memory). It would be reasonable that the winner plays SA in 2010 (preferably not in Adelaide).

The current arrangement doesn't involve QLD or NSW/ACT.

The tri-state agreement, proposed in 2003 and put into action in 2004 is between the SANFL, WAFL and the VFL. Two leagues will play each other one year while one either sits it out or seeks out other competition.

At the moment the current schedule is this...

2009 -- WAFL vs. SANFL in Perth, VFL bye
2010 -- WAFL vs. VFL in Perth, SANFL bye
2011 -- VFL vs. SANFL in Melbourne, WAFL bye
2012 -- SANFL vs. WAFL in Adelaide, VFL bye
2013 -- VFL vs. WAFL in Melbourne, SANFL bye
2014 -- SANFL vs. VFL in Adelaide, WAFL bye

You can see the pattern developing there...so itf the TSFL entered into the equation and made it a quad-state league agreement, the years when one state would normally sit it out would see them play Tasmania instead. WA has been known to play QLD when it has a bye, though.

This thread got off topic pretty quickly didn't it?

I know WA were looking at lining up NSW last year as well - if it was a full strength NSW team with O&M League players included it would be a competitive lineup. Probably get a few people along if you played it at Lavington or Narrendera as well. Be hard to do logistically though.

Last time WA played Tassie was in Kalgoorlie from memory about 6 or 7 years ago.

There's CONSIDERABLE push from both current and former players, past fans who have boycotted the club in the past few seasons and many involved with the Lions to revert back to the Tigers next year.
All seems very quiet on the surface, but rest assured, the wheel is turning in the Tigers' favour.
Both the senior coach and senior captain have stated that it's got to happen - the only two people in the club who are fervently pro-Lions are president Phillip Baker and Treasurer Grant Butters (enough said )
Hopefully this greatest blot on the club's history will be eliminated fairly soon.

One of the reasons for multiple clubs keeping their identities is because of enormous problems in recent years with clubs losing their identities and as a result, losing a large majority of their supporter bases as a result.
Examples would be obviously Hobart losing 200 members in their first season without the jumper and emblem, and a loss of almost 85% of its membership the year after it adopted the Lions emblem. Not to mention the bitter in-fighting at the club over the years.
North Hobart, Glenorchy and New Norfolk also suffered major problems in this regard when they lost their identities for a few years when they had to join the SFL.
North have done reasonably well in recent years membership and finances-wise since their strip and emblem was returned, but Glenorchy, despite great on-field success has an appallingly low membership (almost as poor as Hobart Lions), New Norfolk despite getting their identity back are now in terrible trouble financially, and have very little support or membership anymore.
Kermandie won the 2000 SFL premiership as the Bushrangers (Adelaide Crows strip), but lost most of its following and lost the support of its past players association the very next season when they adopted the Kangaroos playing strip and emblem.
And there are many other examples....

In short, it pisses loyal fans off, it disenfranchises them - the game can't afford to lose them.
The crowds at SFL games are proof enough.

Lauderdale changed to the Bombers supposedly because they couldn't get any decent gear out of Geelong.
Essendon stepped up to the plate to offer them a helping hand and support and that's why they wouldn't go back to the Cats.
I have heard stories that there is a certain element down there that aren't all that enamored with the Bombers and would rather them go back to the Cats, but that's just hearsay.
One thing is a definite, their past president told me a few years back that the LF&SC has worn a fair few jumpers over the years, not always the Cats, so change isn't something particularly new to them.
Someone on here would have a better knowledge on them than I would, but I seem to recall it being mentioned that they'd only been the Cats since 1979 despite being founded in 1948.
