What are your view on INXS getting a new lead singer? I am really annoyed about this INXS is a great band and a new lead singer will just destroy the band even more. Aother thing the show is American, INXS is Australian not American, why should an american lead the band?. What do you think?

next series is going to be called - 'a flock of seagulls rockstar'

they need a tamborine player with big hair for their next appearance on the 'one hit wonders of the 80's' tour

And I rannnnnnnnnnnnn...I ran so far awayyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I watched it last night on Foxtel - dreadful. They can't be seriously considering one of these nuffies to replace Michael Hutchence can they?

And Dave Navarro is full of himself.

Mind you, I'll keep watching it due to Brooke Burke.

Because the remaining members of INXS have sold their soul for a buck. This is just the latest embarrasing chapter. Cant make it any clearer than that.

Honestly, if the remaning people from the band had any kind of integrity theyd of just started a new band, with a new name. But alas no, the name INXS gets them through a few doors, and gets them a few high profile gigs that another name wouldnt so they persist. Would Michael Hutchence approve of this latest chapter? Of course he wouldnt.
Its honestly very sad, and very very tacky. Just my opinion though Linga.

Bands who lose a lead singer will suffer an instantaneous death. Just look at AC/DC..

INXS should give it away.

INXS were never AC/DC. (Your being sarcastic right). The band was Michael Hutchence and thats it. Itd be like Oasis try to continue without the Gallagher brothers.

Its an offensive money grab. But I must say one or 2 of the "contestants" show a little promise but I would much prefer the INXS name be laid to rest and a new band started with the remaining members and the "winner" of this rockstar crap.

Michael Hutchence wasnt INXS he was merely a member, but he was the most high profile member so the name is always linked with him. Im sure the Farriss brothers et al would still have enough pull in the industry to open their own doors without having to use the INXS name.

Oooh look Avril is competing....

How pathetic.... :( The remaining blokes from INXS need to be ashamed of the themselves. Michael Huthchence would be turning in his grave.

The band belongs to the Fariss brothers more than anyone else so it is theirs to do as they please IMO. They certainly have the writing talent to pull it off.

They could reinvent themselves with a different style a la Van Halen I guess. The big issue is the backlash by people saying 'that isn't INXS'. Still, the band was their life and the actions of one person have effectively ended their careers. They are fully entitled to try to resurrect something they worked every bit as hard for as Michael did.

I didnt watch it and probably wont. Its offensive.

While Andrew Farris was the biggest creative force in that band, Michael Hutchence is irreplaceable. I agree with UNIT. Its cheap and tacky.

What i have never understood is why they havent further delved into areas of electronica and more sparse sound-track type stuff with the odd guest vocalist here and there (ala Massive Attack etc etc etc). Their music was kinda heading down that path at one point before their ill-attempt to become a relevant pub rock band with the last 2 albums before Mick left us.

Jon Farris has a wicked grasp of the craft. Some of his ideas in terms of drum sounds and programming were ahead of their time back in the 80's and 90's. And they've all dabbled from what i've read over the years. Gary Beers was born to play more groove orientated stuff.

Instead of becoming this tragic parody of themselves, i just dont get why they cant call on their years of experience as song writers/mucians, their older age and at least some sense of pride and dignity in what they do to just try and meaningfully reinvent what INXS means and follow what was a promising trend on albums like X and Welcome to Wherever You Are. While they might not sell as many units, i'm sure they'd earn so much more respect that way.

The Farriss brothers may have started INXS, but Michael made INXS. They are now going to make something that simply isn't INXS anymore. The original INXS fans will be replaced by idiot groupies who like whoever wins this silly game.

Bloody hell, I'm gonna be alienated severly here, but I reckon it's brilliant.

I've never been a huge INXS fan - I loved their cover of The Loved One off "INXSive" when it came out in about 1981 when Hutchence was going through his Jagger phase, and "Shabooh Shoobah" had some likeable moments, but that's about the extent of it.

But as far as a TV product goes, Rockstar is everything that Idol should have been ... but wasn't.

I'm hooked.

(and also bunkering down for some real flak!)

I've only seen Wednesday night's show so far and I thought it was pretty good. Great song selections (not INXS songs), unlike the banal tripe they foist onto Idol contestants.

I don't mind it. I hope that Aussie guy wins. I may be biased I think he is great. I loved his performance of "Smells Like Teen Spirit". I thought INXS were a bit harsh in their comments.

Yeah Back in Black was an absolute flop :p

But yes INXS should have given it away.

Here it comes Jim!

I watched it on replay the other night after my wife told me not to after she had watched it earlier. She said "I dont think you should watch it because INXS have sold their soul and have become totally Americanised". I was flabbergasted to put it lightly. At one stage I whispered "I think I am going to be sick"
How Jon and Gary could sit their bopping away listening to people audition to become the lead singer of INXS while Michael Hutchence was surely turning in his grave is beyond comprehension to me. I have been a huge INXS fan since I was about 10 and thought that these guys were some of the most forward thinking and progressive musicians ever and have now become complete sell outs totally disregarding any credibility they compiled in 25 years in the industry.

I agree that the shows production is very slick with a great talent base of performers and lets not mention that complete horn bag Brooke Burke but the whole idea of it just gets under my skin. Obviously Jon Stevens didn't fit in for unknown reasons and Terence TD was only a one off but guys just let it go and look back at how much you achieved without totally blowing off all of your fans. INXS were great but now are complete parodies along with The Beach Boys.

As for Docker Brat, AC/DC are still great but not brilliant. Next time they come here take $100 out of your purse and see them. You will not be disappointed. Angus is still the best in the business by a country mile.

(I have dug a hole for myself to hide in, so bring it on!!!)

Nah, what you write is absolutely fair enough, Tredders. You obviously have more of a connection with the band than myself. I'm sure I'd be reacting in exactly the same way if it were the Sunnyboys or Midnight Oil who were undergoing the same 'Extreme Makeover'.

All I'm saying is that from a non-INXS fan's POV, I'm digging it. A top house band providing the score, and some great voices bashing out Black Crowes, Bowie, Nirvana etc.., rather than tinpot wannabe-Karaoke singers covering Fox-FM-type playlists like Idol.

It's just good telly from my viewpoint (as far as Reality Audition type shows can be good, that is).
