Sorry guys, I realise there is an iphone 4 thread but I'm hoping for a fairly quick response... I bought a new Telstra iPhone 4 yesterday on a $49 cap which includes 1GB of download. I was on the iPhone 3G previously with optus, but their network was shoddy so thought I'd move across to Telstra who have much better reception.

Anyway, since I recieved my handset, I have restored the settings from my old phone to my new phone through itunes, downloaded a few apps (over wi-fi), watched some youtube, listened to about an hour of cricket on TuneIn radio (should use no more the 60MB per hour) and recieved a text from Telstra about 3 hours ago advising me I had used 81% of my data for the month, approximately 854mb. I can't work out how in gods name that is possible, and nobody from Telstra would give me any answers... Could it be the settings on my phone, or is something going on from their end?

Advice would be great!

its quite possible you have been given a pro-rata allowance for the first month of billing so that you're brought into line with everyone elses billing cycle.

I thought this would be the most likely reason, but it's very specific in saying how much I've used (854MB). Do you think they just multiply the pro rata amount to get that figure? Otherwise, it seems virtually impossible I could have used that much!

thats my best guess, i dont have an iphone and have never used one so i dont know about the background data usage. android does have problems with excess data, mainly due to background syncing and users not setting up their accounts and settings correctly. if in doubt just call telstra and find out whats going on. turn off 3g data if needed to save cash
