Surely we have to stick with Kawaja? I don't think he is too far away from a big innings and at least has the technique. Not a lot behind the current test 11 in terms of batting.

Of the top 10 run scores in shield so far this year, only Nevill (Keeper) and Rogers have career averages of more than 40. So who ever you look at is likely an older batsman who has a mature technique, or a 25 year old (ish) have a good season (amounting to no more than 6 shield matches this year).

Ed Cowan is obviously in good form and with a career average of just under 40 and three first class centuries, he would have to be conisdered to replace Hughes. But unless you want to pick someone like Wade as a batsman to bat at 6 or 4, who else can we bring in??

Can you believe that the kiwis did not appeal for the Hughes glove to the keeper? Phil will be counting his lucky stars after that.

Yes Warner has looked good, still don't think he earnt his spot.

The kiwis are really weak, the good thing for Australia is that India is fairly weak at the moment particularly from a bowling perspective Abd I believe zaheer khan is injured too.

Can you believe we will be seeing sea I'd and laxman again! Add tendulkar to the dad's army.

I do see the India series being pretty competitive and close though.

I thought Hughes battled quite well today. He seemed to playing (and leaving) that ball that he's been getting out on quite well today.

He did. Had excellent judgement. Why does it take until you are staring at the Centerlink cue for him to show some common sense.

Just nicked Martin to Gumby again.

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out Hughes!

Obviously Warner is not up to it, but stick with him since we picked him and see what happens.

Luckily, india is pretty weak at the moment.

Great 50 by Warner :thumbsu:

Oh, my. That's it me thinks.

Thankfully he's made the selectors decision an easy one this time. Has a habit of making a score in the last innings of a series to save his spot. Done it at least twice. Not good for him or the team.

Edit....
86* vs NZ in Wellington March 2010. 2nd innings get him an Ashes birth (8 previous innings. HS: 37)
126 vs Sri Lanka in Colombo 16 Sept 2011. 2nd innings gets him a SA tour (10 previous innings. HS: 36)
88 vs SA in J'Burg 17 Nov 2011. 1st innings gets him a start in this series. (a pair of 9's previous two innings and 11 following)

Good on ya mate, just like when you wrote off Aussies in Sth Africa.

Good on Warner. We need him to perform.

Gee he times the ball so well. So much talent to work with.

Usman always gets a start, needs to start going on with it. Should get the whole summer to show what he is made of though

Seems to have a drop in concentration every now and then . . . would love to see him make a ton as I think it will be the first of many.

Gives punter a chance now!

That looked like it held up on Punter.

Certainly looked that way

And now Clarke is out, this game isn't over yet

Edit- and now Hussey

Time to step up Haddin

Another failure by Ponting.

Has more photos than Ben Dixon.

Scored just one 100 in the past 2 seasons. Avg 33 during that time.

11 of his past 18 innings he has failed to make 30.

9 of the past 18 innings he has failed to make 20.

He's cooked.

If warner gets going this will be over in 3 overs.

Gees if Hughes was out for a duck really would have made our job harder.

Was thinking that Hughes is really taking the pressure of ponying especially and hussey. I think the press might focus on all three now.

Henry, you seem to have stats at will. how many times has Hussey been out to straight balls in recent innings?
