Is Clark Keating dispensible?
I don't mean it from the fact that he is a bad player (he's not), but from a value for money point of view. We all know about his history of injuries (Shoulders, calf, knee tendinitis, osteitis pubis, ab strains, and now the latest, a foot problem), and consequently, a lot of missed games. Is he worth the reputed ($300,000) money he is on? From all reports, Lappin, C Scott and Black are all on lower money than this, yet IMO are more influential (and reliable) players. I am just thinking down the track - are the club setting themselves up for a fall in relation to the salary cap? Is the club better off going with McDonald plus Charman/McLaren, for salary cap considerations?
I guess it comes down to the argument of quality time on the park versus what the player is getting paid.
IF - as was reputed in the media - Keating gets his running and jumping back (and consequently goes forward and kicks goals, and contributes around the ground, a-la late '99), then he will be a huge asset. No problem. If not, and he is simply a "tap ruckman", could he be a target if we have to create salary cap space???
Any thoughts??
