This seems a big bump up for Josh Hazlewood.

He's played 8 List A matches for an average of 28 and a econ rate of 4.53. Not bad figures at all for such a young bowler.

He may not get a match if the others stay fit, but considering this is the Aussie attack, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the starting 11 for at least one match.

Who else could have been chosen?

I would have thought it was worth getting Dirk Nannes in as cover, he's got to be at least as useful as McKay.

I would have liked to have seen Johnny Hastings get a go. He is a fast bowling all rounder like Johnson and won the Bradman young cricketer of the year. Good luck to Hazlewood, he has a very bright future.

Shouldnt be there yet, only 19 ffs, arguably our most promising bowler but not ready for international cricket.

I like it. Gives me a reason to care about this series now along with Paine. Let's not forget pretty much every other option is injured.....Or Victorian.

I know what you mean, I was very glad Paine was chosen or I may not have given a toss either, except that I'd rather we didn't lose to the Poms in any more series before the Ashes.

I think that both Cutting and Hastings are having surgery over winter, so they were out.

Hazlewood is too young, it is a really big step up for him but you never know he may get conditions that suit if he plays.

Why did they take George to New Zealand if they weren't really interested in him?

Hopefully just there for 'experience' not ready yet. Body doesnt mature properly till 22-23, and with fast bowling being one of the hardest things on the body its not sensible for him to have an international workload.

Shitload of talent though, potential star. Along with the likes of Mitch Marsh, Copeland, Khawaja, Hughes, Smith future looks good.

I wondered this too at first, but then remembered they took George to New Zealand for the tests. George's one day numbers (albeit from a limited sample size) are quite poor when compared to his 4-day record. Still, you'd think if someone's in the mix for the national team, they wouldn't rule them out entirely from one form of the game right away, unless they're a T20 specialist a la David Warner.

This is what I thought. He may look mature but he is 19 and even if Pakistan needs to play their talented teenagers I don't think we should be putting that sort of pressure or work-load on ours, or at least not the pacemen.

He had that 'side strain' earlier in the year after a bit of Shielf cricket, you dont want these kind of things becoming regular occurances.

I find it hilarious that Johnson is out because he has an elbow infection, after getting a sleeve tat done. What a tool

About the only way he could get injured though. That guy carries a hell of a workload but stays fit somehow.

But yep, he's dumb even by quick bowler standards.
