Magpies and Malthouse part ways.
Collingwood has confirmed media reports that coach Mick Malthouse has stepped down from his position as Collingwood Football Club's head coach. Channel Ten reported earlier this morning that speculation mounted over the future of Mick Malthouse. Since then, there has been strong suggestions linking Mick Malthouse and the St Kilda Football club's senior coaching vacancy with many sources within Linton Street confirming the move is imminent. Mick Malthouse ended his football career at St Kilda after playing over 200 games with the Tigers.
A media throng is gathering at the Lexus Centre for a scheduled 5.00pm media release.
Collingwood released a statement saying it "will seek to clarify the position of Mick Malthouse" and his future at the football club. Insiders for some time have speculated that Guy McKenna has been groomed to eventually replace Mick at the end of his tenure. Others have touted the return of former Captain Mark Williams to the Carringbush as a result of unrest amongst board members and senior players at Port Power.
