The amount of injuries we have had over the last few years is unacceptable, some of it is down to bad luck etc, but the consistant soft-tissue injuries recently, and the last straw, MJ and McVeigh reinjuring themselves, the blame has to go to the fitness staff's poor assesments of players and poor conditioning. We have plenty of resources at this club, lets get in a professional, or more, why just one fitness coach, when injuries and fitness form such an important part of the club why not treat it as such. Quinn is a sprint coach, and AFL football is not a 100m race, lets get a professional with experience in the field, lets put together a commitee of three or four highly qualified fitness experts and have three or four qualified opinions on each matter rather than one. Sure, it will cost more, but we have the money, and if it results in less injuries and more consistant on field performance it will well and truly pay for itself.

Agreed.

The last straw for me was having seven players out for Round 1. SEVEN. You have five months to get your playing list fit and it is your responsibility to make sure they are all ready.

I also think the lack of a home training base is to blame. You train on a different ground every week, it can't be good.

In fairness to Quinn, it is most likely that the majority of hamstrings have been caused by the hard grounds.

What is interesting though is that both Essendon, and Hawthorn, both have fitness coaches with an athletics background, and both have had terrible pre-seasons. Hawthorn also did last year.

I have faith in Quinn - I respect him greatly. But I think we need somebody to compliment him, somebody from a football background, as if to get the best of both worlds.

I agree, Quinn must go. We have had a horrible run with injuries since 2001, it can't all be put to bad luck.....especially the soft tissue injuries. Most other clubs seem to be able to manage these. So far this season, we have had more than a dozen soft tissue injuries...and its only round 2!

agree! quinn must go! i have no background in athletics training, gain all my info from reports in the newspaper and have no idea what is actually going on down at the club. quinn must go!

Just how many soft tissue injuries are you prepared to put up with? Do we have to be wooden spooners with a list of 22 fit players to choose from before you realise that something is not right?

Aaron Henneman - Hip - Test

Marc Bullen - Calf - Test

Ben Haynes - Thigh - 4 weeks

Courtney Johns - Hip - Indefinite

Joel Reynolds - Glandular Fever - Indefinite

the club is clearly falling to pieces...

Yes I do agree as well, I do think quinn's time is up and
some questions need to be asked at the end of season about Quinn if it gets worse.

Also I definitely agree with club getting some professionals to reduce injury wise problems. Iam sure as well the benefits would out way the cost in the long run.

As we're seeing at the moment with very few on our injury list (Bullen and Henneman was listed as tests and will probably play this weekend, Haynes is a couple of weeks away, and Johns and Reynolds are on the long term injury list with issues that have nothing to do with Quinn) ...

It's just the luck of the draw, at times we'll be doing well injury wise and then a few weeks later we may be struggling. Happens at every club, Quinny shouldn't be held responsible.

I dont think the complaint is concerning the team at present, as we clearly have a good team of healthy players RIGHT NOW. The issue here is that we started the season with many players out with soft tissue etc injuries.

The thing here is, we trained at LaTrobe which is a lush green ground and fantastic for footy. If anything, LaTrobe is too soft!!!

I really respect Quinny, but the player list we went into the start of the season with is absolutely less than satisfactory and someone needs to be held responsible. That someone is Quinn. Im not sure that he should be fired, but I do believe he should be under the microscope.

I think a number of the soft tissue injuries the boys had at the start of the year were due to the training venues and the fact that they couldn't use their own oval at all as it was being resurfaced. In previous seasons they haven't been able to use the middle of the oval due to cricket still being played, but at least some training could still be done around the outside. This year it was completely unusable, so every field training session was held elsewhere.

The boys were driving to Latrobe or Optus Oval, training, then having to drive back to the club to use the facilities that they'd usually have on hand straight away at the end of training, ie, massage, hot/cold tubs etc.

That gap between the end of training and arriving back at the club can not have been healthy when they'd just finished a session. Hour and a half of running, then sitting in a car for half an hour? not good!

I don't know what else the club could have done though. They couldn't use the Windy Hill oval, so had to train somewhere. It would have been a logistical nightmare to try and take everything needed to each session, in fact impossible with some equipment. Where they trained at Latrobe certainly didn't have the facilities - one oval had no building whatsoever and the other only had a standard pavillion type building - and I doubt Carlton were about to let them use the facilities at Optus Oval!

Essendon Grammer was used for a couple of sessions which at least was a lot closer to the club, but there is still that gap between the end of training and getting back to the club.

Quinn has been at the club since 1999, and was with the club during our dream run in 2000 - why is it that all of a sudden his techniques are thought to be causing trouble when they haven't seemed to before?
