I don't think I've been able to cast a vote this century.
Anyone recall voting for Brad Cooper's replacement?

The succession plan was announced after round 7 in 2009 (my Pa had passed away that week so I remember it well). The pies were 2 wins and 4 losses at that stage after previous seasons of 13th (04), 15th (05), 5th and eliminated in 1st final (06), 6th and lost in prelim (07), 8th and eliminated in semi final (08). So no top 4 seasons and besides 07 (which we had an average season but exceptional finals series) no real chance at a premiership for the last 5 years. Therefore I understand why the succession plan was created. Mick had another 3 years to win a premiership which he obviously had been building towards through the draft and let's not forget the addition of Jolly and Ball at the end of 2009 season (after the plan was activated) was undoubtedly the difference to us winning it in 2010.
After 2011 and 2 GF appearances and 3 straight PF appearances Mick had been at the club for 13 years so Fresh ideas and changes were required. *Remember Geelong won 2007 and 2009 and made the 2010 PF then made the changes as fresh ideas and innovation are always needed* Therefore I would have supported the succession plan at the time.

Buckley took us to the prelim in 2012 and we lost to the eventual premiers. He went out and got 3 first round draft picks (one eye on the future) and got Lynch to replace Dawes and Young to replace Davis to have another crack in 2013 since we were only 1 game from the GF. It's hard to win a premiership so if you are that close you should try and strike while the iron is hot * Again Chris Scott and Geelong of 2011* so again I would have made a similar decision at the time.

Alas in 2013 we finished 6th but never looked like a top 4 team. We were beating by a younger and faster and hungrier side in the final and it was clear at this stage that our window had shut. Buckley offloaded the older statesmen (Didak, Johnson, Jolly, Krakour, Shaw) and let Daisy walk. He bought in 2 top 10 picks making 5 in the last 2 years. Again after 4 straight PF's, 2 GF's and 1 premiership and the 2013 season review I agree a refresh was required

2014 was a refresh/rebuild year. We are one of the youngest teams in age and have players like Fasolo, Grundy, Kennedy, Adams, Witts, Elliott, Keefe, Thomas, Williams, Sinclair, Broomhead, Martin, Seedsman, Freeman and Sharenberg all with under 50 games experience. Give them 2 more seasons of experience (another 40 games) and another 2 preseasons for physical development and we will be a different team.

Great job Billy.
Fine assessment, I'm willing to stay the course. But then I remember the last time we had this many kids coming through together. It was 1986-87 and the names were: Brown, Crosisca, McGuane, Monkhurst and Manson.
Go the distance Pies.

Impossible for people not to use hindsite. As you can see by responses already, they are using it to show how decisions were made were obvious at the time. Clinton Young for one, was at the time a fairly good get, considering we got him for nothing. He replaced Sharrod Wellingham, but then we got a pick for him as well. It was really good to replace Wellingham for nothing, and still picking Brodie Grundy with the pick we lost Wellingham for. That is awesome. Young has went as average as Wellingham has for West Coast.

I don't see Armstrong as hindsite though. Blind Freddy seen he was no good. Should of Promoted Kyle Martin with that pick we would of had.
