Now lads and ladette's, there has been a lot of love for this bloke for a while now, and more so since the Elimination Final, for bloody good reason too!
Just a little timeline of his time at Tigerland thus far.
- First interview at the club - Expressed his desire to lead on the field, to really crack into every contest and show his hunger and passion for the contest. (I must admit, after hearing this I admired him but I also thought its just another big talking player that will most likely fizzle out to VFL level.)
- After six rounds - The signs were there, the hunger, the determination, everyone was starting to get rather excited about the prospects of big Ivan sticking around for a while and really bringing some quality in our best 22.
- First year done - WOW! What a beauty! Pick-up of the season by far. He went from being a second choice ruckman at Adelaide to one of the premier ruckmen of the competition in the space of a year.
- Start of second year - Leadership group, can't argue with that.
- End of H+A season year two - Had a few injuries hurt him throughout, but another solid season, still very happy with him and what he brings to the side.
- Elimination Final - Inspirational. The one word that sums up his performance that day. He did his utmost to drag the team over the line in that final qtr but to no avail. His celebration after his goal just showed us what kind of player and person we have at the club, the type of person that bleeds yellow and black and would do anything to try and get the result.
- Injury video 2014 - Earlier this week RFC put up a video of Ivan talking about his ankle injury. A few things really jumped out at me. He spoke about how the other ruckmen really needed to take the responsibility of the expectations that are set by the club. The way he said it, it wasn't just a regular interview rehearsed line. He said it in such an assertive manner to reflect that these were HIS expectations of our ruckmen, not just the clubs.

There has been plenty more I could have put into there, but I will let you all discuss our big Croat and what an excellent inclusion to the club he has been.

The mullet has been fun but i wont mind if he wants to chop it now! either way he is still a big ass scary crazy eyed man who will kill everyone!

He may have the only mullet I've seen that actually works! Honestly you look at Walkers attempt, was purely for comedic effect, looked shithouse and he knew it. Ivan's isn't the 'bogan/redneck' style its more like a warriors mane. It's ****ing fearsome.

He'd look stupid without the mullet now.

I remember when we first traded for him a lot on here weren't overly happy even with the Crows fans assuring everyone he'd be missed at the Crows.

I knew he'd be good for us, he just needed the opportunity. Hopefully he can get over these injuries because we need him.

This is one of the most spot on calls I have seen in a while!

I remember early in the 2012 season I was reading a footy record at our match and there happened to be an interview with Ivvy in there as a 'get to know your new recruit' type article.

The question was 'There is 2 minutes left in the grand-final and your team is down by a kick and out on their feet, what do you do?'

His response was something along the lines of 'I dig a little deeper to find some extra run, I will myself to keep getting to the next contest and compete as hard as I can and drag my team-mates across the line'.

A lot of players can be all talk but he proved he isn't, particularly in the EF when he kept fighting and basically said 'I'm gunna stand up and put you all on my shoulders and get us over the line', after that goal I was almost barracking for a win not because I wanted to get through to the semi, it was because I didn't want his efforts to be in vain.

I still get goosebumps thinking about that celebration, I was sitting in the first few rows on level one where he collected the ball and was right up close to his celebration and I got shivers up my spine, the emotion was phenomenal, me and my mate got out our seats and were jumping up down stomping our feet and nearly passed out from screaming so loud.

I fell in love with him after that snap goal in the first quarter against West Coast in the early rounds of 2012 at Shitihad. Even back then he bled so much passion for the club and his celebration was electric the way he jumps up and down and flaps his arms willing the ball over the line.
