I don't know if this is related to that worm/virus going around at the moment, but I have been absolutely hammered by some sort of spambot.

I have a forwarding address which is unfortunately posted on a very public website read by thousands and thousands every day.

Others in this particular web community with forwarding addresses within this domain have been hit as well, though I seem to have copped it worse than anyone else.

In the past 24 hours, I have received approximately 2,000 emails, all containing subjects like "Wicked screensaver", "your details", "that movie", etc. These things are literally coming in faster than I can delete them; I get more than 1 a minute - I got 19 in the time it took me to type this post.

I've had my Eudora open all day. I've set up a filter which throws them into the trash immediately, but I still have to manually delete all the attachments, which is a major pain in the arse.

Anything I can do besides ride it out?

Nothing that I know of. The best thing you can do is keep your virus scanner up to date and leave your mail prog open, like you are doing.

Here's hoping that it does stop after a little while.

Going by you descriptions it definitely sounds like it is the "W32.Sobig.F @mm" virus.

Instead of setting the filter to trash them as soon as they come in can you change it to actually Block messeges containing "*.pif" or "*.scr" attachments.?

This should stop most of them coming through.

update your virus software. If that doesn't work then go to http://www.spamcop.com

i use this program which lets you see the headers of all your email messages without actually downloading them

mailwasher pro

you can then block or blacklist addresses that you do not want to to rcieve emails from

you can delete suspicious emails off of your server without downloading them.

you can also bounce emails back to where they came from

you can use it to filter hotmail accounts too

It's the latest worm mate. Go off to www.symantec.com and you can download a fix for it. Once you've done that you definately need to purchase a virus killer.... Norton or McAfee will do the job for you.
