Tall, Strong, Athletic .......Jessie White could be a great CHB. Chris Tarrant became a far more consistent player when he settled as a key Back. This looks to be our key weakness coming into 2014. Could JW be part of the solution?

Novel idea, but not one that would work IMO.

He's an athlete first footballer second so the smart forwards would just drag him upfield and lose him in transition coupled with his limited ability in the air it's not a recipe for success.

The other aspect is that we have 4 capable KPD already so there isn't really a need for it anyway. It's also worth noting that Tarrant transitioned to defense because he had the absolute yips in front of goal. It was his best shot at staying in the game.

I think our forward line lacks balance and defensive pressure when we are too tall up forward, I don't think we can accommodate, Cloke, Reid, and White, and maintain forward defensive pressure. This pressure protects the back half by locking the ball in front for longer periods... Like 2010 side. Reid seems to get injuries.....White may be more robust and therefore provide more stability in the back half

I don't think White has the "football smarts" to play as a defender, one of the biggest things that people don't understand about Ben Reid is that he's basically a football genius, who can read the play just about as well as anyone.

Reid has led the AFL for interceptions for the last few seasons, there's a reason for that and it can't be taught in a few weeks.

White will play forward, at times in the ruck if we don't play 2 genuine rucks, but I don't think we'll ever see him down back.

What makes you think that the defender line makes a player more prone to injuries than the forward line?

It's the same argument as the Cloke to the backline, why send an unproven forward to the backline, when we already have an AA CHB to send there instead?

I subscribe to the K.I.S.S theory.
White was recruited as a forward and has played there is whole career. No need to mess with that. Too many posters jumping off Keeffe, back the boy in, he won't disappoint.

I don't understand why everyone is trying to find another kpd spot when we have an AA CHB on our list. And multiple forward options.

Cloke Reid White looks like Witts is putting his hand up too showing good form in practice matches.Everyone saying we've got to many short people won't be long saying we've got to many talls.

I am not a fan of Reid going back. His early 2013 convinced me thoroughly that under Buckley, Reid will never be a consistent defender. Decent (not outstanding) 1v1 and panicky with ball in hand, his kicking which was once precise and damaging became a liability. He is on the other hand, a gun forward.

He would still be a better option than White though, and playing him as a third tall to Keeffe and Brown may be where he could be the most useful as a key defender.

But if we wanted to move Reid back, it would be on the back of having Witts hold down FF/FP while second rucking for Grundy. Witts has a solid lead up game, too slow to offer anything defensively but a very willing tackler for a big guy and his height means that he should at least 50/50 most contests. Plonk him in the goal square and watch him become a 40-50 goal a season forward once he bulks up and has sufficient core/upper body strength.

White would not be a good defender. He shows enough as a forward to give him at least one season anyway. And having 3 key targets is what will prevent teams from double and triple teaming Cloke.

He is a AA CHB and I did not seem him really Panic that Much.
Reid would be good on the wing

To me, the role I want to see from Reid is actually Maxwells. I think Keeffe and Brown can comfortably hold down the two key defense slots, and Reid excells at reading the play, taking the intercepts and delivering long an accurate passes to set up attacks. Its what we are crying out for, and in the absence of running half back options, absolutely critical.

That struture could also accomodate Cloke forward, with the resting ruck if we play Witts and Grundy together. From what Ive seen of White, he is not so much a power forward as mobile tall/flank, sort of Darling but taller and not as good. Id rather him doing that, an I'm not convinced he is a great ruck chop out.

Would rather bring an AA CHB to CHB than a guy who has just clicked in the forward line and would have to learn the games again if he goes down to CHB.

Reid will stay in the forward line, let's hope for a fast recovery from Scharenberg.

Can we just like, wait until he plays one game up forward within our structures? Just one before we go about changing a whole pre seasons worth of work.
