Was midly amused that his move to Fremantle for more oppurtunity sees him in the same spot on the outta. Not in Freo's best 22 either it seems.

Perhaps he should have gone to Richmond or West Coast then MAYBE he might have got a run

Re: Jack Anthony emergancy

Maybe just maybe he was an always over rated medium sized player, that will never make a pure AFL KPP?

He also has problems with the fact that as a medium type of player he lacks agility, speed and above average ground work (he is fact below average at all 3), he also last year struggled majorly defensively up forward(willing to say fitness may have been part of this) and body work at both end of the ground(size issue).

I wish him luck but he isn't that great a player and isn't a huge loss (Dawes is/will be better up forward, Reid, Nate and Keefe will be better down back), i think Freo will find that at his very best he is just good depth for a top 4/2 type of list.

PS I do expect the Anthony fans to flame me for this

Re: Jack Anthony emergancy

Probably a good reality check for him if he thought he'd be a walk up start at any other club. I think he'll be a good forward for them, but he's got to work for it.

I have been very much against all the Anthony hate on this board from people who said he in some way betrayed the club, but I agree with just about every word on this post, Opti.

Jack is the only one who can prove you wrong now, and I hope for his sake, and Fremantles, that he hits some great form and wins back the respect of the afl community. And I think a debut at subi is probably what he needs, a proper induction into the team. Expecting big things from him once he feels he's apart of the club. Coleman smokie ?

Re: Jack Anthony emergancy

Still think we should have tried harder to keep him.

But seeing Keefe in action, and seeing how much better Dawes is getting by the week doesn't make it sting as much as it used to.

No chance. Never kicked more than 4 in a game and struggles to score at all on the games best defenders. He's a handy player, but very limited. I'd say he's capable of kicking 40-50 this year if he's played at FF.

He had a good year as a forward but he was very opportunist, a lot of goals on leads and scrambly type goals where he got on his own. He's easily coached out of a game if he plays on a bigger full back.

I think his only hope at AFL level is as a third tall backman. Must get fitter and stronger though.

Didn't he train all summer as a defender?

The bloke needs a massive reality check and needs to come down to earth. He cant kick straight anymore and he is just to weak to be a key forward. He thinks he is a walk up starter at an AFL club and he has to change that or his career will end in 2 years.

he really need to get bigger (i say 96-98kgs) and work on fitness along with ground work and defensive skills to make it as a KPF. he could also make it as a KPD but need to work on footy smarts and all of the above.

I'd say it's probably more his mentality that has him out of the side. I'm not a Anthony basher either and it would be good to see him get games, but yes, it is a little amusing he left for greater opportunities and he's currently not getting them. Plus the fact that if he was at the Pies he probably would have been given Buckley's position in the side.

Could be a blessing. If we had tied him down, it may have put extra pressure on our salary cap to retain our current stars and our up and comers in Reid, Brown and Dawes.

Ahm....reality check Jack.....you are punching above your weight division.
Will make a good WAFL player this.

Surely Gold Coast would have given him more opportunities.

Why bash a player because he's not in Freo's best 22 yet? Sure, he didn't leave under the best of circumstances and maybe he should've handled it better, but that's no reason to kick a guy.

He's still a very good footballer and hope he does well in the west.

The thing is ED, according to MM on the season launch where he named a player assumed to be JA. MM had no idea that he was considering leaving. JA just up and left and the 1st MM appeared to know about it was JA saying he's going to the PSD. Given Walshy's reaction I'd assume we new very little of his decision to leave. I can't recall seeing Walshy annoyed in an interview which is showed when advising of the list lodgement where JA was delisted due to him leaving.

I think Freo went to him and said "go to the PSD and we'll give you a 3 year deal but you have to keep it quiet".

Thems the breaks.

It has to be worrying for Jack that he can't get a game for Freo in round 1, despite all the injury worries they have.

But then again, I think Mark Harvey is trying to build a more defensive minded side, especially when on the road, and well, Jack wasn't exactly known for his defensive efforts as a forward.

I'd expect him to play 10-12 games for Freo this year, he will always be on the fringe in their side, they actually have some talented young medium forwards who IMO would be ahead of Jack in Harvey's eyes.

One thing's for sure though, if Jack was still at Collingwood, HE WOULD NOT BE PLAYING FOR US THIS WEEK, Lachlan Keefe has already surpassed him as a defender, and with Dawes and Cloke, and Leeroy and Jolly resting up forward, we are in no need for another "mark and kick" forward.

It (Jack leaving) will probably end up beneficial for both teams long term, giving us the opportunity to play the likes of Rounds, MaCaffer and Keefe, while Freo add to their depth, which has been suspect.

I can't say I wish him well, but I wish him no harm, and hope he actually helps Freo out a little bit (but not too much).;)

He had a shoulder injury which stuffed him as a forward last year, as his marks weren't sticking. Kicked 50 the year before.

He had some ripping games as a fullback in the VFL, which is where I see his best position. At 191cms, he is tall enough to play KP defence at AFL level.

Trouble he has is that his ability as a forward was good enough to see him permantently played there, but he is slightly undersized for that position, which is why Dawes went past him.

This desire to use him as a forward (by both us and seemingly Freo) is IMV costing him experience in defence where he belongs.

He is fast, can take a ripping grab, kicks as well as Clemo and has far better ground work than haters suggest (who clearly have barely seen him play defence and should STFU).

Murphy's law that he would have got a decent run with us where he belongs in defence, given our run with injuries.

Given how he ****ed us over, I don't really give a **** about him anymore, but if I'm being honest, I still rate his potential as a KP defender very highly. But that rating will disappear if Freo aren't smart enough to give him an extended run there soon.

I agree. It's like the pathetic booing Shaun Grigg copped last night. We should respect players a bit more than we do. Current and past players.

Karma gets you. He'll probably kick a goal after the siren in a final against us!

At the end of the day, as a supporter, you support your football team, not the player that used to play for your club.

It's nothing personal at all. We still wish the player all the best for the future but they will not receive a "welcome reception" when they return to play against their former club. It's sport and it's passionate. This is how it should be.

I understand that but I'm sure there's a few sheepish people who gave it to Tarrant and now he's back.

No doubt about it. I was amongst the bronx cheers every time he missed a shot on goal vs us.

Now that he's back all is forgotten. It's extremely satisfying that he never kicked a goal against Collingwood because he is and always will be on of ours.
