Could that be part of the Reason he went Lower then he was Rated?
Whilst im an advocate for higher learning and both my children have completed double degree's at university and i was adamant they do so my nephew (who doesnt have a father and looks to me for guidance came to me and said he just doesn't like school and doesn't want to go to university

After trying to persuade him to continue accepted that he would never be an academic and was probably correct in his call so we went about finding him an apprenticeship in plumbing and he has completed this and now is a fully qualified plumber and is earning $3000 pw and loves his job

His employer has now persuaded him to further his career by taking up some study which he is loving

Moral of my story - Maybe not right for him then but after joining a club and guidance he may do something in his future whilst at the club, He certainly isnt dumb and just has football as his priority at the moment and will probably make a million dollars in his first 5 years

We clearly didn't pick him because of his athleticism, we picked him for his football ability. There are plenty of players like him at AFL level, Lachie Neale, Sam Mitchell, Dayne Zorko, Zac Merrett and Caleb Daniel. Higgins has the same talent they all do in that they can find the ball at will.

You could make the argument that draftees that are apart of AFL academy programs would be further developed than those draftees that are not. Given academy players have access to AFL fitness programs and nutritionists who are bought and paid for. Not even Jack had that luxury needing to go through private trainers. There is also the reality that the majority of AFL players develop beyond their first year in an AFL system. If Higgins has a leg up in that he can hit the ground running in that way I can only see that as a plus.

If he quit school because he struggled with the mental work load... that could be an issue. AFL footy is an exhaustive profession for players nowadays and that could see Jack struggle. In saying that, I know plenty of people who quit school to get out into the work force and thrived starting their own business or getting a head start in their careers because school wasn't for them.

It will be interesting story to follow no doubt.

School is not for everybody, There are people who are just not academic and are better at other things and want to start their 'life' in another work place or sport,

Dustin Martin left School at 15 , Seems like he's a pretty good footballer and knows the game plan and doesn't struggle to sign autographs

This boy can play. Work rate, courage, quick hands, goal sense, enthusiasm. He ticks a lot of boxes and will only improve.
A long term keeper, in my opinion.
