What are the chances of Jack Steven re-signing contract with us?

If yes, for how many years and $$$

If he decides to join Cats then what are our chances of signing Dangerfield or sloane?

Do we get draft pick 2 and 3 if steven signs up with other club? Assuming we will still be ranked 18th this year.

I'm 99.99% confident he'll re-sign with us. Guess would be 3-4 years

If we can give Acres 4 years we should be giving Jack 4 years and maybe think about 5 years.

Something tells me the club really rate Acres, like REEEALLLY rate him.
I have been bullish since before he did his shoulder in the U18s. Knowing someone who worked with him as a junior and knowing what he knows about him is the sole reason for the bullishness.

Seeing first hand when an underdone Acres did some pretty special things in the intraclub last year was enough to convince me we have a very Pendlebury like player on our list!

Now back to Jack, I never realised Montagna said that stuff about him as a draftee - thanks for sharing

10 disposals, 1 tackle and 1 free for in half of the Brisbane NAB cup game, was rested for the final two quarters. Had a very good second term with 7 disposals and was looking really good.

NAB Challenge Leather Poisoning

Who is attracting the footy most per minute of game time over the first two matches, I hear you ask?

2. Jack Steven You may have been dismayed by Jack’s first NAB Challenge display of just 10 disposals and 40 SuperCoach points. I’m hear to tell you to dismiss those thoughts, because a little over one third of the match (35%). A second showing of 22 disposals and 124 points, albeit against the topped up Bombers, came from just 56% TOG! Steven is an absolute ball-magnet when he’s on the field and should definitely remain in high consideration for your side. Averaging 110 in 2013, we’ve seen what he’s capable of before. Turning 25 years old on the Eve of the AFL season, he’s got a lot to give the Saints and SuperCoaches this year. Again, trickier because he’s got to be very good to justify handing him a midfield spot, but you’re saving a truckload of cash.

Speaking of Jack in 2013, I was recently informed that he reached a high of 19th (in the comp) in the AFL player rankings by the end of 2013. Given the fact that they are done over a two year period and how far back he would have been at the beginning of that period (the start of 2012), it shows you how much they rated his output/performances for the 2013 season that he had risen all the way to 19th off the back of it.

33 disposals, 5 marks and 5 tackles against the Hawks. Looks like he's back and will only get better, put up a great game against the premiers with half our side out, will have better efficiency when there is more support and we won't be playing the Hawks every week. Good to see him getting centre clearances and breaking away from stoppages.

WITH several rival clubs on the prowl, St Kilda are hoping to have free agent Jack Steven secured within a month.

Saints chief operating officer Ameet Bains has told The Australian the club was aware of other clubs circling the speedy midfielder who won St Kilda’s best-and-fairest award in 2013.

“We’ve been trying to have Jack’s new contract completed before round one, and we are comfortable that he hasn’t put talks on hold,” Bains said. “We know there is a lot of interest from clubs in him but we’re confident negotiations are moving to a point where he’ll be done sooner rather than later.”

Bain said the club and Steven’s agent Peter Lenton had been in discussions since the start of the year. His new contract is understood to be for as long as five years, with earnings upwards of $700,000 per season.

“Because Jack is one of the younger free agents that’s another reason other clubs are attracted to him,” Bains said. “We’re also being careful not to straddle the line in putting too much pressure on the player and his management, but we’d like to get him done soon.

“We don’t believe he has been negotiating with anyone else.”

Bains said Steven, who turns 25 on Saturday, was one of five St Kilda players eligible for free agency at the end of the season, along with Sam Gilbert, Sean Dempster, Sam Fisher and Adam Schneider.

“But clearly Jack is our priority in terms of getting him locked away quickly,” Bains said. “We’re happy at the moment with the status of the others and they will be dealt with later in the season.”

Steven missed five games last year, including the first three rounds with a foot injury. He had another restricted pre-season this year with a thigh problem, but has gradually increased his game time during the NAB Challenge and played his first full game last week to be on track to play against Greater Western Sydney at Etihad Stadium in round one on Easter Sunday.

Free agency has not been kind to the Saints, who lost Brendon Goddard to Essendon and Nick Dal Santo to North Melbourne, but last year retained Fisher and Jarryn Geary.

Stevens is among a star-studded list of 2015 free agents still available, including Adelaide’s Patrick Dangerfield, Geelong’s Tom Hawkins, Carlton’s Matthew Kreuzer and Richmond’s Alex Rance.

Potential high-profile free agents who have already re-signed with their clubs are Richmond captain Trent Cotchin, Crows captain Taylor Walker, Kangaroos captain Andrew Swallow and Port Adelaide best-and-fairest winner Robbie Gray.
