anyone catch Rogues statements RE: minor nations having memorable performances from the likes off Eric the Eel, Eddie the Eagles, and then Kenyan 10K runner turned skier.

I felt like jumping into the newspaper and belting him.

anyway, the up shot is he doesn't want these countries at the olympics and he wants it be for the best athletes in the world, as others have said "Another World Championship"

I for one hope this doesn't happen, because it would take a lot of colour and fun out of the olympics.

What are peoples thoughts on A) whether or not these countries and athletes should be allowed to compete and B) Rogges comments, which IMO stunk of pure arrogance.

EDIT: Didn't notice the "Olympic Spoilsport" threat till after I wrote this but feel free to add in to the threat if youw ant.

I agree with the guy. The untalented gimps should stay at home and leave the olympics to the real athletes. There were probably hundreds of young swimmers who had gotten up at 5am each morning and trained for hours year after year and failed to qualify for a spot in the olympics by half a second and then they have to endure watching some bloke from the jungle take 3 days to swim the 100 meters and become an instant hero around the world for it.

You should have to earn your spot at the olympics just like any other sport. If they really want to give these concessions, they should put them in the special olympics.
