I've just finished an 'interesting' debate with a couple of Eagles and non-Eagles supporters regarding my new fav' player - Jakovich. (Not my new fav' because of this weeks performance, but because due to him, I am now the proud owner of a heap of memorabilia signed by this year's squad). :D

Anyway, the discussion revolved mainly around whether he should retire at the end of this season. The reason on the 'yes' side was that he would be going out on a real high with his (and the team's) performance far outweighing expectations and the fact that he's proved so many people wrong. Basically, so he'd go out as a current 'star' not as a hack who played on for too long.

I don't know if I'm missing something, but personally, I think he has ALOT to offer (as we have seen) and barring any major injury, can't see any reason why retirement should enter anyone's, let alone his own, head. As one of the people who agreed with the comment was an Eagles fan, I'm interestd to hear others views.

Also, did anyone see one of the footy programme's (I think it was Sunday The Footy Show??), that kept referring to Jako as being 33-34?

On a different note, it was great to see the Sunday Times running such a fantastic piece on the AFL on page 7 this week. :D ;)

No way should he retire. He's only 29 and will go close to overhauling Cus for the B+F this year. He'd have to have a good 3 years in him. It's amazing how differently players play without injury.

it is always good to go out on a high but that doesn't have to be done while you still have some seasons left in you. i thought that libba retired in a very fine fashion.

if he left at the end of this season i think that he would be leaving are backilne at a very susceptible stage.

i think he's got a couple of seasons in him
we've seen what playing injury free can produce and he should stay for another 2 - 3 years

Jak

No way should Jako even be remotely considering retirement. He has plenty of football left in him.

Brian Taylor was the fool on The Sunday Footy Show who said it was a worry that our team's best player (Jak) was 33/34. He said it twice in the course of the show - just served to reinforce the view that a lot of media do not have a clue and do no homework before opening their mouths.

Nathan Burke also AGAIN brought up the "maybe they are using something illegal" rumours when Billy Brownless said how much bigger the Eagles players were than the Magpies. Billy,to his credit, debunked the theory when he pointed out that even the "little" guys had good builds and said they obviously spend a lot of time in the weightsroom.

I think Jak has easily another 2 years left in him. Many of the wise "fools" in the east are always happy to write off Jak as they see him as a player who has been around for a long time. Many forget he is only in his late twenties.

Glen is a champion without a doubt and I think he is the only one who knows when he will retire, and when that does happen, I am sure we all will respect his decision.

He shall leave a huge hole in the team, but we will carry wonderful memories of the man forever.....

I remember in the first derby this year when some docker player tried to annoy him and Jako just glares at him and pushed him away like the docker player is a little pest

That was "THE ANVIL" (falls on floor laughing...)

Not only is Taylor so uneducated to think that Jakovich is 33/34 but he also knows nothing about the West Coast Eagles to suggest that Jakovich is our best player? Sure he is still in the top 2 or 3 at the club but i think we all know our best player is now Ben Cousins. Jako perhaps the most important though.

Forgive me for butting in here guys, but i think he should retire. Before this weekend, today, preferably right now if possible would be nice, as long as it can be arranged before we play this weekend thank you. ;)
Seriously, he is in great form and if he can keep the injury monster away i reckon he has a couple of quality years left in him "unfortunately". Unlike most other supporters i really do admire the bloke, even after he nearly killed our bloke Robbo last time, with a fair bump i might add, anyway good luck to the big fella. Hope its a good game this week at Jacks Palace guys.
DOGS BY 11 POINTS. :( :)

Your a better side than yesterdays game, but travelling is obviously a problem. Do you think Woosha being a new coach, maybe hasn`t got the travelling thing down pat yet? Oh and 11 points was a typo, i meant to type in 51 points, sorry. ;)

Best time to retire would be when we finally have a specialist backman to replace him,. though you can't replace the croatian colossus in terms of his legacy you can however make he leaves behind a little of his spirit in the next centre half back.

If only Darren Glass was consistent.

Congrats to the doggies.

We'll trade you our financial know how for your dogged tenacity and aggressive hunger.

Yeah he was awesome in his day...during the 90's was probably the best european in the NBA. Won three titles along side MJ and Scottie Pippen in 96, 97 and 98. Is also known as "The Waiter" cos he can dish the ball with the best of them.
