The following player has come to my attention, he has been playing the last 2 years with Werribee. Playing key position, CHB and CHF often getting afl players in the backline to match up on.

He has perfomed really well, and is up as one of the best VFL players there, he has a great mark and strong kick. He kicked 10 something in one match earlier this year.

He made the rookie lists of Collingwood and Essendon a couple years back and is training with the swans next week and might have a chance to get drafted.

I reckon James Podsiadly is a decent player and should be given a chance by the Swans and he could provide some real value.

Any thoughts, anyone else heard of him?

I have long been an admirer of Podsiadly and think he is very unlucky not to have the chance at AFL experience. I remember his first Wizard Cup game in 2002, where h lined up on Lockett and Hall and did admirably, I thought. He has kicked a bag of 10 in the VFL, sometimes playing on AFL listed players. He single handedly turned a VFL Semi Final on its head and was unlucky not to have given Werribee the game. He is strong, agile, quick of the mark and a ready to go KPP. I think our pick 57 is ideal for him and would love to see a player like him at the Swans next year to further add depth to our defence.

Pods has been a consistent contributor this year at Werribee. At times captaining the team, he lead by example, never shying away from a challenge, whether down forward or down back. He provided sturdy contests and was rarely beaten. He would be an asset to the club and deserves a chance. I'm all the way for drafting a player like him. He has reasonable experience, is mature and has the desire to play hard and win games for the Sydney Swans. My mates matt and slats who played against him a few years ago reckon the same thing, he's worth drafting for sure.

Well he is certainly training with us and the club has said its looking at a few mature age possibilties so he certainly could be picked up with our list pick. Too old for the rookie list, so that helps him because if we want we'll have to draft him.

Reported to have done well on Nathan Thompson and Sav Rocca when they played in the VFL this year and the Bulldogs would of played him in the seniors if he was on their rookie list.

All depends on how he goes with us at training.

Would love to see James Podsiadly get drafted onto the Senior list at any club because he wasnt given a real chance to prove himself ( he had 1 year on each of Essendon and Collingwoods rookie lists ) and is probably a better player now than when he was on the Rookie lists. Was a fan when he was at the Bombers and i wish him well come next Saturday ;)

robbieando, I saw those games against Box Hill and Port Melbourne when he playd on Thompson and Rocca. He held Rocca to only two goals, one which was unlucky, but for the rest of the day stood tall and fought at every contest. If you look at Rocca did for the Kangaroos after that, I tink you haev to sy the performance was pretty bloody good. As for the game on Thompson, Werribee lost and they rotated men on him, but Pods was certainly very good again. There have been very few games where he lets anyone down, on of the most consistent performers I have seen and very deservin of the chance.
And I whole heartedly agree that his one year stints at Collingwood and Essendon were too short. It was a waste of an opportunity or those clubs, but hopefully for the Swans will prove a gain. If the Swans don't pick him, there is a strong chance that he will train with the Dogs during Pre-Season and end up there anyway. As already stated, he would have playe senior footy had he been on the Dogs list. Come next Saturday, I'm looking forward to seeing Pods on the Swans list. I wish him all the best and hope he trains the house down.

Cheer Red Blood, it's good looking into this stuff. I think the players that are worth the punt are always more interesting to follow up. Some can really benefit clubs and in this case Pods will be up in Sydney with a chance at being picked up. I guess we will see how the week transpires.

cheers

He sounds very interesting - but I'm sure 15 other clubs are probably thinking likewise - even mediocre talls can get a regular senior game at a number of clubs.

The problem I forsee with this chap is, if he's good enough to make it at AFL level, he may not be around by the pick we were planning on using for him

Ert, I know I am following this chap up and totally agree that there are a heap of mediocre talls playing at the highest level. I rate this bloke much higher than mediocre and think he could b a real surprise packet and draft bargain. Podsiadly has gone about things quietly in the lead up to the draft and I'm sure not much interest has been shown by other clubs. The Swans were one that did show interest, however, and have given him some shot. I actually think the Swans last pick is the ideal spot for a mature bloke like him to go.

not saying he's mediocre by any stretch

Point I was trying to make was that a number of clubs currently have some fairly mediocre players in their sides for no other reason than they are tall - therefore, if a good AFL ready tall was available, such as Podsiadly, most clubs would snap him up in an instant

I'm very much interested in seeing him in red and white next year - I just fear another club may gazump us with an earlier pick

And finally - if he does end up in Sydney, PLEASE, PLEASE don't give him #16 - it's cursed!

Sorry, Ert, I didnt mean to say you meant that he was mediocre, but did fully agree with your thoughts about some talls.

As for the #16 at the swans, I'll take your word for it and if Pods does get picked up, will cross fingers he doesn't get it.

Oh, and what a marketing delight it'd be with the release of new "Pods" biscuits. I'd love to see a new draftee with the bikkies :)

cheers guys

nice one trizzles about the 'Pods' bicuits!! but ill tell u wat Podsiadly is definately not soft on the inside!! Ive seen 'pods' play a fair bit and hes been very unlucky not to get drafted so far. if he doesnt get drafted this weekend all the clubs should have ask why not. he's tall, fit, strong and has a top record against top players such as rocca as mentioned. he's been unlucky not to get a fair go so far from the pies and bombers so hopefully his time will come this weekend. just wished he was playing for the pies...

Played both ends of the ground for Werribee. Started off season strongly in the backline, then moved forward and kicked a few bags. I probably prefer him up forward and have seen him play a fair bit. Is mobile and is good off the mark.

Very capable at both ends and has pretty good speed.

The thing I like about him is that he has got leadership skills and can really inpire.

Against Springvale he took 15 marks and kicked 10 goals....fair effort

Sounds like he is pretty much and all round package for a rough chance in the draft come Saturday. He also seems to fit the criteria for the 6'3" or 6'4" bloke that the Swans may be looking for. I suppose they could draft him, being the mature, ready-to-go player, or take the chance with a young KPP and hope he develops. I would be inclined to go for the former and would like to see Podsiadly at the Swans come Saturday afternoon.

good to see such keen follow up from swans supporters on podsiadly. he is finally getting some attention he deserves. I agree with you totally trizzles, i would like him to be a sydney player after the draft. i dont think it is anything less than he deserves. I have been a long time admirer and now is the time he deserves his chance. as ive said before i would prefer him playing at the pies but i reckon he deserves to play afl-anywhere

Well guys, after seeing repsonses, there has been some general good feedback about Podsiadly. From my experiences of seeing him, he looks a worthy draft chance and all the best to him, I hope he doesnt get picked up early and goes to the mighty swannies.

Has anyone got his height weight d.o.b i would be all for picking him as he can release saddo into the foward line and hopefully we will still draft Ed Clarke

James Podsiadly
DOB: 10th September, 1981
Height: 193cm
Weight: 98 kg
Natural Foot: Left

Strengths: Tall KPP who is, as we have stated, good at both ends of the ground, and can even play as a ruckman if really required. His athleticism allows this. James is a mature and solidly built, and can contest one-on-one with most good KPPs going around. He has a strong, raging left foot kick and kicks ball with precision over a long distance. Took a leadership role at Werribee this year and grew in stature. Can inspire his teammates and can take a good, contested grab when needed. He proved this in Werribee's sudden death final, which he single-handedly almost won for them. Quick off the mark and can be dangerous as a tall man.

Weaknesses: James is quite left-side dominant and could improve on his right foot considerably, however I don't think this significantly hinders him. Further refining of his kicking action on his left side could make him a really potent big man. For a man of his size, it is probably advisable that he work on hitting the packs harder too, because he has the ability to really crash them, but also the strength to stand up himself and take some grabs.
