Hi All. I'm new here as have previously only posted on footy related.

James Sutherland is someone I know little about. I'm curious as to people's opinions on him as he seems to have gone under the radar a bit over years, now. On face value, it seems things have slid a long way on his watch. Initially with selection, coaching and talent development. Then with the traction the game has lost in a marketing sense along with the international scheduling dysfunction. And now, most importantly, with the uncovering of what appears to be deep seared discipline and cultural issues.

Please don't misunderstand me - I'm not potting Sutherland. I genuinely don't know how good or bad he's been and am interested in what others "more in the know" think. I'm just curious as to why more consideration has not been given to a change at the top when there has been decline in so many areas. For me, the most telling issue is how I, a former cricket lover, am barely interested in the game currently.

His press conference on Warner the other day was interesting, could almost have been mistaken for someone with a backbone.

He must have been watching a few AFL crisis management pressers. The "nothing good happens after 2am" line is an AFL cliche whenever anything like this happens.

Sutherland? I don't know. There will always be faults and he has at least overseen some attempts at positive change.
There is only so much that CA can do about player abilities and attitudes. They are removed a little from direct team management, although adopting the part of the Argus review to have captain and coach as selectors appears to be the mistake many people thought at the time.

CA itself is in a big change of its make-up and the state influence. Once that is bedded down it might be time for renewal, and a focus on the tier below the national team. That might be the time for Sutherland to step aside if he can't shift his thinking.

Scheduling, especially of the Sheffield Shield and avoiding pointless one day international series, needs to be seriously looked at.
The Shield must have international players available more often, so the second tier players are regularly tested against the best; and scheduled to give the best chance to judge form before and during Test series. That may cause conflict with the BBL cash-cow, a conflict between money and cricket that there is probably no "correct" position on.

Too little too late.

The fact we needed the Argus review should've been enough to see him removed; we've degenerated into a complete disaster under his watch.

Zero accountability.

I have no grudge against him personally, however my beef with CA is that it has lost touch with the game at grass roots level. The current observations and outcry at the rudderless ship amongst the Australian team is merely symptomatic of the environment that has been created almost a mirror image of the AFL fifedom.

As CEO he is front and centre in that.
