Jared Crouch's progress?

I was wondering how Jared Crouch was faring ... will he play round 1? What's his fitness like? He is a great player for the Swans.

I don't know what's up with Crouch. I've read a few articles on him in the last few months, but i can't remember them actually giving much of an indication as to when he's going to return.

Hopefully soon, but i highly doubt it's anywhere even near round 1.

According to injuryupdate site, Crouch will be available round 1. I doubt that he will be selected to play the Eagles and will more than likely spend a couple of weeks in the reserves building his fitness levels and regaining his touch.

A very much under rated player by some Swans fans. Our best run with player - more than likely one of the best in the comp at shutting down his opponent.

I have been desperate to watch some football and have been watching the 2005 and 2006 Swans season highlight tapes over the last couple of weeks. Amazing how many goals Crouch initiates for the Swans with his run out of defence and through the midfield.

Some forget he was the coaches' choice for best player of the finals series in 2005 - and deservedly so. Davis may have got all the headlines for the Geelong escape but it was largely down to Crouch during the first half that the Swans were just about within touch with the Cats. Plus his role in slightly quelling Judd during the GF was critical in getting over the line then.

One of my abiding memories of the 2005 GF is Crouchy lunging in front of thick oncoming traffic to knock the ball wide to Schneider who eventually goals (after a false start). Given the eventual margin, it was a golden 1 per center.

I just get this gut feeling that as he hasn't yet surfaced for a game there has got to be a big doubt as to whether he will come up, indeed if he does, his level of fitness. Standby for an early retirement announcement.

Here is an article from the AFL website regarding Crouch's progress! It looks like he'll be right for round 1 :thumbsu:

AFTER nine seasons of physical abuse, Jared Crouch's body thanked him for taking a rest.
Crouch now hopes it is about to repay him when he makes his return to senior football in the Sydney Swans' NAB Challenge match on Friday night after a nine-month lay-off following a broken collarbone and ankle surgery.
Even until just a few weeks ago, the ironman of the AFL was given little hope of playing but came through Wednesday night's training session unscathed and has been named for the Telstra Stadium hit-out against Port Adelaide.
After 194 consecutive games from his debut in 1998, the pain in his collarbone and ankle finally proved too much after round 12 last year and forced him to sit out the Swans' charge to the grand final.
"I just want to play each week so it was initially very difficult, but I was in an enormous amount of pain every week," he said.
"As soon as I made the decision not to play and took it easy, the body felt great and mentally I felt great as well and the body started to repair.
"When the body went 'yes, you beauty, you've given me a rest, you're going to be pain free', it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
"Let's hope it continues to thank me by playing a few extra years."
Despite his body's gratitude, Crouch says he is no guarantee to be fit for round one when Sydney plays premiers West Coast in the grand final rematch at Telstra Stadium on March 31.
Having completed only six training sessions since his ankle surgery, the 2005 premiership player expects to play little more than 40 minutes in defence, with a possible trip into the midfield, against Port.
"This is not so that I can play round one, this is the next step I need to be at," he said.
"For everybody else it definitely is a dress rehearsal for round one; for me it's about getting that match fitness under my belt.
"I'm certainly not expecting anything massive, it's just a first hit-out.
"It's not like other years when I was itching to get out there in round one. I want to make sure I'm right to go."
The collarbone and ankle injuries cut his 2005 and 2006 pre-season preparations, but he fought through the pain to be fit for the start of each year.
This time, however, he says while he's lacking in match fitness, his body "feels great".
Crouch's selection for Friday night is crucial to his chances of playing the first round, with coach Paul Roos insisting only those fit this week will play against West Coast.
Tadhg Kennelly may be the only exception to the rule as he continues to battle a bruised shoulder, although he and Leo Barry were both named for Friday night after injuries kept them out last week.
"We are getting close to shaping what we are going to be in round one," Roos said.
"If you aren't playing this week, aside from Tadhg, you won't be playing round one."
Matthew Laidlaw also returns, while Kieren Jack and Paul Bevan have been omitted.
