why isn't he being picked up via a zone pick for the Swans??

or did the Swans lose their zone picks as well as the Lions.

You're correct in deducing that Sydney lost their zone picks.

Even had they been retained, its not clear whether McVeigh would have been eligible. We were debating this (mostly elsewhere) before the AFL changed its mind on the zone picks and I don't think we came to a definite conclusion. Under last year's scheme players had to come from the Sydney metropolitan area. The proposals for this year were going to expand the zone, at least as far as Newcastle in the North and Wollongong in the south. This might have then caught up McVeigh. But I'm not sure we ever worked out exactly where McVeigh officially lived and hence whether he'd be eligible under either scheme.

But its all academic now in any case...

Jarrad McVeigh is definitely worth your while picking up at no. 7 in the draft. You've drafted enough talls, your midfield is questionable with Kelly retiring, Maxfield at age 29, Cresswell in his last year, Fosdike and Bolton haven't taken the next step really.

Having said that, Carlton's midfield needs a re-structuring so I'm not just bagging out the Swans here.

Nup, I really hope we dont get McVeigh. I want one of these players probably ..

Nixon or Fisher would be a better propect.

There's no question that Sydney need to find some quality young midfielders. Roos has already stated this will be his priority in the draft. It's just a case of who.

be fair mase, he might have had an off day...you're just anti Killarney Vale. He runs like the wind blows...

BTW ...was Greg Stafford a zone selection ?

No idea if Stafford was a zone selection. Were they even in place then???

I dont think he was one ...

I dont want McVeigh because I think he is extremely overrated, and is a receiver.

I also think he is very soft and wont be fantastic at AFL Level (not star status). So I dont think he is worth no.7 pick

I would be surprised if McVeigh went at No. 7 (which could be No. 5 soon!). And he will be gone before the Swans next pick (Rd. 312 or something close to it).

I also think that Fosdike made good progress last season - could be a good midfielder. But Bolton certainly needs to step up.
