It may be forgotten by the wider football community, but you guys will never forget Gram's efforts yesterday.

He may not be a highly rated player but it's September when legends are made (or the opposite - Leon Davis), and he stood up and almost pinched the Norm Smith.

History shows that we lost the 2001 Grand Final, but I do have memories of Scotty Lucas trying his absolute guts out.

At the end of the day he's an average player. He's like Matt Priddis except Gram can run lines. Unfirtunately the ball was in his hands too much (not his fault). You guys needed the ball in Lenny Hayes' hands but he got stopped after the first quarter.

Absolute and utter BS.

Gram stood up yesterday and tried his damn guts out. I was most impressed with his efforts in the final as opposed to some of his efforts throughout the year where he has been lazy and half hearted.

agreed cant believe some people still knocking gram he might have played some average game but was still our best player yesterday

He had a really good game but Chapman was far and away the best player on the ground. No one wanted to go near Gram and he made them pay, but the fact is, Chapman won Geelong the premiership.

Which is what I said. Idiot.

Gram had an absolute shocker in the prelim but redeemed himself yesterday. Did some real good things and had he had some help at times might have been more damaging.

In the first quarter when he did that double spin move and then tried to give a handball for Farren Ray who should have been moving for him but instead was just standing there watching him do it. That's what I mean by a little bit of help for him and he would have been a lot better.

Overated performance.

Got off the chain due to the defensive forward role that Rooke played on Fisher.

67% efficiency rating, 21 uncontested possessions and missed a crucial goal.

Chapman had 73% efficiency, 8 inside 50's, 3 goals out of 12.

Chapman deserved it.

He was not BOG. Just because he got the ball a lot doesn't mean he was the best player. He didn't do enough with the ball to be BOG. He had a good game but Chapman probably had half the possessions but it's what he did with them that counted.

Congratulations for having the courage to come on here and show that you know absolutely nothing about footy. A bloke who continually gets the majority of his possessions at full back under enormous pressure and uses them perfectly almost every time, who shows courage, flair and composure continually for four quarters on football's biggest stage is merely "good".

You've made my day, peanut.

Humphrey has drawn some criticism from our own lot at times his year (sometimes becuase people know what he is capabale of), so I guess it is not surprising that the great unwashed will log on and provide their uneducated opinions.

Clearly one of the best on the ground.

Can someone please explain to me why there was a countback???? When someone ties for the Brownlow - they do not say "Well sorry we will go with the player that received the most amount of points first" It really sucks

The Brownlow used to be on countback.

Don't think a tied Norm Smith really works. OK with finding someone from the winning team, unless a player from the losing team hs 40 touches or 5 goals (etc).

you DOG supporters don't give up do you?

wander about, slag off then back under your filthy rocks.

I have to say first up that if Gram had got the Norm Smith, I doubt he would have felt comfortable receiving it. I didn't rate his game that highly personally(effectiveness), as he didn't have a player watching him for the majority like every other game. When looking at his stats closely I think the decision was well and truly the right one.

In a tough, hard game where possessions were difficult to win due to wet conditions, it baffles me why Hayes didn't get the nod for Saints best. I love Hayes, his attitude, intent, such a great team man who got the Saints in the GF to begin with and played a faultless, unstoppable first Qtr.

Not to flame, but I think Gram is overrated. His effectiveness is not great. His decision making requires work, tends to kick long to contests too often when a smarter option is viable. All the other Saints mid/backs look to hit targets(and do it better than anyone), while he juts bombs it too often. My opinion is justified to the point that other sides don't pick him up.... ever. He is the last player in the long list of great Saints that gets looked at closely by the opposition. If we'd given Hayes or even Dal Santo the space Gram had... Geelong would lose, no question! I'm just not a fan of outside players getting too much kudos, especially in a wet, high pressure game where contested footy is EVERYTHING!

Gram is a good player who had the ball come his way more than most in the GF... I think he needs to win it himself more to become a better player, while adopting a more Dal Santo like decision making ability.

Gram hasn't been playing his best for a while, and he didnt step up in either final.

But to get 30 touches in a GF, regardless of how many were contested is a fine effort, and it just reaffirmed that he isn't a down hill skiier and can step up on the big day.

Thats the only reason I made this thread (oh and I was kinda drunk)

I'm pretty confident he will improve as a player after that game. As a fairly quiet and nervous kind of guy, it will do wonders for his confidence.

Thanks for clearling that up - I did think that about the Brownlow - and believe perhaps it should revert back to that - I understand they believe they can't have 2 best on grounds - but can you really have 3 best and fairests????

Also from what I have heard the votes are cast 10 minutes prior to the end of the game I do remember Buckly winning it one year though but am too young really remember how the game was played and if he deserved it.

They changed the system after that. The votes are done after the siren now.

Gram was our best. His best for the season. BUT it was Chappy that won it for them when it mattered. If we'd won I would have said that Gram deserved it because his effort all day pushed us over the line. However in the last quarter Chappy was unstoppable and he got them over the line.
