I think it's time we opened a discussion about Jesse Hogan's next contract. After extending his contract so long ago earlier today, Jesse is now only contracted until 2019, and after a few hours since he signed his last contract the clock is ticking. Personally I'm starting to get very nervous about him deciding to leave in three years time.

To be honest I'm starting to get pretty angry at Jesse for not signing on beyond 2019 yet. I'm sick of him stringing the club along for so long. Reckon if he doesn't sign on before the end of trade period the club should consider trading him this year while his value is at its peak. Because as we all know; big KPF play their best footy in their first two years, and it's all downhill from there.

I reckon we're not going to get better opportunities in 2019 than pick 3 + Weller or pick 12 + Darling. I say we trade him now, instead of him playing out the next 3 seasons like he doesn't want to be here. He also has no outside speed and class.

He'd be more likely to go to another Vic club than a WA club IMO, and since we're aiming to be top 4 by then he should be staying put

I'd actually thought that this morning ... not only does a 2 year extension have him coming out of contract before he becomes a Free Agent, but by the end of 2019, he'll be 24, and have been in Melbourne for 7 years. The go home factor would be minimal after that long, he'll have built a life in Melbourne by then ... as long as someone can organise to have a procession of scantily clad and morally questionable young Melbourne lasses past him.

Jesse signed on for around half what he could have been earning had he gone elsewhere.

Obviously this means we need to offer him half of what he signed for yesterday to get him at the end of 2019.

I know how the contract game works.

I'm starting to feel like it takes a certain kind of person (extreme confidence or a tool) to earn big dollars in a team that is growing together. I mean, being massively overpaid when your output isn't up to what you want it to be must be crippling in a team where teamwork and culture is being portrayed as the pinnacle.

TBH, if it was the choice between 700 and 1.2, I'd consider the 700 if it was going to make the dynamic and day to day in my team a lot better workplace. Also means you don't have that extra 500k hanging around your neck, ready to be used against you if you don't perform.
