(Apologies if this is posted elsewhere...couldn't see any reference)
So who else questioned this at the time? I know Blind Freddy and I did and counted the steps in the replay!
I know it doesn't change anything now but it was a team lifting goal for the Swans .
It's not like me to hang on to things so I'll just file it away with Wayne Harmes' 1979 GF goal after the ball was out of bounds ,Kerry Good's 1980 Escort Cup GF goal after the 'not heard' siren, Rocca's goal awarded a point in 2002 GF...

I'm sure if the Swans win the flag someone will get out the lasers and figure out exactly how far he ran between that first and second bounce, but really, it wasn't paid on the night, yet the field umpires from that game get the grand final.

Goes to show that the AFL are more interested in putting on a show than they are in actually making the game better at it's heart, it was a free kick to Collingwood, that wasn't paid yet the AFL reward the umpires from that game for making several clear errors.

Did you see the Hawthorn/Adelaide game? Umps looked like one eyed Hawks fans. It may have been a reward, but it honestly looks to me like the AFL said "okay, you guys on Friday night were the ones who screwed up the least, so I guess you get the game."

As for the Jetta goal, may have technically not bounced the ball within 15m, but it was a great goal and it didn't determine the outcome of the game.

Sydney were the better side all night, deserved winners. If we had lost by less than a kick, I can understand the argument, but I can't believe there's whinging about this when we got done by 4-5 goals and could've gotten belted by 10. Nothing like the '79 or '02 GFs at all.

Play on. What's done is done.

Yep, that's the feeling I got as well.

Notice 21 frees paid in our prelim, 46 paid in Hawks-Crows.

He could've bounced it basketball style, Brown was never going to get near him, non issue, looked ok to me live, obviously he ran to far using hindsight but there's 20 decisions each game that are wrong using hindsight.

That's a really poor way to look at it. Fair enough, people are disillusioned about the umpiring at times, but do we drop umpires because they make a few mistakes in a game? Or in every game in a season? It's like saying we should drop Swan/Pendles because they missed a few I50 targets. Sheesh. The 3 umpires who did the game Friday night did a really good job, and have done so for much of the season.

Couldn't care less, there is no way we can complain about it and say it had an effect on the game. We are lucky we didn't lose by 60 points.

If it was in the last and it was 14 points the diff and they let him kick a goal like that then I would be furious. But we were smashed all night, the scoreboard actually makes us look more competitive than we were.

1. I cannot believe some of the 'put up with' soft**** attitudes on this thread. "didn't change the outcome", you know that do you? I've been a 'Pies supporter long enough to be sick of being bent over by umpires-(field and goal),tribunals and flog supporters of wannabe teams that rub our noses in it when we drop out of finals when their teams finished 11th, 12th and lower.
2. My original question related to noticing and questioning at the time, nothing else.

My question is what were the Pies defence doing so far up the ground without anyone sweeping to allow Jetta to be on his own goalside?

Can't agree they did a good job, they let Sydney get away with a rampant amount of throwing and then randomly penalised us (e.g. Pendles in the first QTR).
