Phillips Smith & Brown would strike fear in most teams this year?

In TAC cup footy.

Reading that forward line gave me aids.

Scary thing is this team isn't too far off what will line up round 1.

Changes I'd immediately make.

Murray to half back, Adams in the middle where he belongs. Sidebottom to half forward with Maynard on the wing. Varcoe to a pocket.

Any Collingwood side with the name Brown in it works for me. I also like Phillips at half forward, he knows how to find the goals. I’m not crazy about Smith but at least he has a crack.

Damn, that forward line looks pedestrian. Ready to see the ball bouncing straight back out.

Look at the interchange, of the 8 it includes ...

Blair
Daicos
Crocker

... who are forward line players, plus ...

Varcoe

... who can play forward, plus maybe ...

Stephenson

So there’s a bit more to our forward line in this game.

Blair Daicos Crocker.. no one inspires more fear in would be defender's like this offensive jargaunaut.

I'm just struggling to get excited about rd1.
A bunch of players who have a crack but are seriously lacking
in polish and flair..
What has become of our illustrious club
:(

To be fair, if they’d shown the magnets this way (same selected team), nobody would have thought to complain about the forward line ...

B: Lynden Dunn, Darcy Moore, Tom Langdon
HB: Brayden Maynard, Tyson Goldsack, Josh Smith
C: Jack Crisp, Scott Pendlebury, Steele Sidebottom
HF: Tom Phillips, Jeremy Howe, Will Hoskin-Elliott
F: Callum Brown, Brodie Grundy, Josh Daicos
Foll: Mason Cox, Adam Treloar, Taylor Adams
Int (from): Sam Murray, Jarryd Blair, Jaidyn Stephenson, Ben Crocker, Brody Mihocek, Ben Reid, Travis Varcoe, Josh Thomas

Here is the visual representation of that forward line:

I would. That fwd third is equally shit with WHE the only one to kick more than 10 goals in 2017. It includes a ruckman, an outside mid, two kids with less than 10 games of combined experience and a guy that hasn’t played forward on a consistent basis for three years.

Let’s be real here if we’re trying to find a good forward mix it’s akin to making a meal out of a shit sandwich. Elliott is the only player on our list currently capable of making an AA level difference as a fwd. With that in mind if we’re to score heavily enough in 2018 to be one of the better teams we need to rely on our mids hitting the scoreboard. Not the quality of our fwds.

I have no idea either. But i'm concerned with Buck's comments on Scharenberg.. Along the lines that Schaz needs to play tall. So then we decide to put Moore back there, and along with Dunn, & Howe, i'm not sure where they think he fits in.

Personally, i would like to try him as a third tall forward. His marking & disposal are his strengths. He should be able to play the defensive forward role as well. Just my thoughts...

Yep agree with you, I suggested it a while back as he played CHF as a Junior with success and it seems clear they have put him on the back burner as an AFL option now.

Langdon and Howe probably makes it hard on Schaz to claim that role so might as well trial him fwd we all know what he can produce at VFL as a Defender when he was averaging 35 disp a week there.

Develop his fwd craft and see if he can be of value in our talent starved f50.

Gee that's encouraging then, isn't it?

We are also talking about a JLT game where it’s normal to give the kids a bit of a run.

There are 18 teams, there are six + an interchange position on the AA team. How many AA quality players can you reasonably expect us to have in our forward line?

I’m not suggesting we have a great forward line by any stretch of the imagination - of the three lines it’s clearly been our most neglected for a long time.

I’m just pointing out that if the magnets had been swapped around then our forward line wouldn’t look any worse than most Collingwood teams in recent memory - after accounting for Fasolo and Elliott being injured / rested.

With that in mind if we’re to score heavily enough in 2018 to be one of the better teams we need to rely on our mids hitting the scoreboard. Not the quality of our fwds.

Is it any worse than last year?

We lost White and Keeffe out of our forward line - who hadn’t contributed anything.

Brown, Daicos, Phillips, Crocker, Kirby will all be better players this year.

Fasolo / Elliott - if they can get on the park then they should retain form. They are both only 25 yo.

WHE is reasonably solid.

Broomhead - who knows how he’ll go.

If that was the case Cox would be in that line

Our forward line looks as impotent as Hugh Hefner in his final weeks, seriously these guys may have been trialing up forward but heck, im concerned .
Phillips, Smith and Brown as fwd flankers/pockets, other teams must be quaking in their footyboots......
Surely this isn’t our fwd setup RND1!

The issue is that our dangerous forwards are injury prone. It's pretty obvious that we want to have Fasolo and Elliott fit and playing forward, plus Wells fit and rotating through the forward line. If you named those 3 in our forward line, it would appear much better on paper.

At this stage with the 3 most dangerous types all returning from injury it is what it is, less than ideal. But as you say, slot them back into the 22 and the side looks immeasurably better on paper. Hopefully they get a clear run once they return. Who knows, we could potentially see a Kirby or Daicos or Stephenson type developing to claim a spot in the best 22 this year and the entire dynamic would change yet again..
