I don't know if people checked out the Q and A with a member of Carlton's recruiting team (the link was posted a week or so back.) But in that he explains that quite a lot of draftees are poor kicks before they get to AFL clubs and that only Gibbs and a couple others could truly be labelled 'silky' disposers of the ball in this draft.

The most obvious one that comes to mind is Danyle Pearce. His kicking was truly 'diabolical,' but now he's probably in the top 5 best users of the ball at Port. It's much of the reason he fell to the rookie draft besides having some of the best Draft Camp results in the history of the D.C. It's all due to the lack of system in junior and regional football, that doesn't lend itself to precision possession.

This is a good point. Unless juniors from SA, WA & to a lesser extent Qld & NT find there way on to a senior list, they miss out on the facilities & coaching afforded those kids playing in the TAC Cup. Having watched a bit of the NT comp on ABC2 recently, I would suggest there would not be too many skills coaches available to the Joe Andersons of this world. There would be a few years of bad habits, skill wise, that will need to be worked on with Joe, but his attitude would suggest he will be a willing pupil.
