Joel Corey has been my favourite player in the AFL for a long time. I love watching him play. Taken with pick 8 in the 1999 National draft, Corey was a dominant force in that awesome Geelong midfield when it was at it's peak.

During the 2004-2010 period Corey was at the peak of his career, he rarely if ever played a bad game during that time. An outstanding footballer who's renowned for his courage, toughness and his commitment towards winning was all on display. One of the highlights of his career was that smother in the 2007 final goes down as a moment Cats fans will never forget. He's achieved so much, played over 250+ AFL games, 3 Premieships, 2x All Australian selections, 2 Best & Fairest awards (2005,2008) and a Runner up finish in 2011. Will go down as one of the best Geelong players during this successful decade.

Good luck in the future to Joel. I hope he can stay involved in the AFL in some sort of capacity.

I will never forget that smother in the 2007 PF. One of the best Geelong moments for me.

He will be remembered as a brilliant player who went into each and every contest with unbelievable commitment and consistency. You'd never get any half efforts from Smithy.

We must be really putting our faith in the young guys coming through to pass on someone of Joel's ilk. What a career though!
